Sorry if I was not clear. It how to get AC to the power supply while
keeping it hidden behind walls, if possible. I use the 16V since I will
be using the amp, but you are right, 12v will do. But even this has
been very helpful. Thanks.

I'm not sure I fully understand. The SqueezeAMP can take anything from
5V (not recommended) to 20V, ideally 12V. You can run this supply using
normal cables, as you said you're not looking for an audiophile-type
system (which is not SqueezeAMP anyway). Now, I would rather run the
speaker cables to a cabinet, but that's really up to you. If the
SqueezeAMP is "hidden", put it in a box like the acrylic one, it's
better for heat & safety. But it should still remain accessible with
reasonable efforts.

2021-04-22 Thread d6jg

I’ve put some ceiling speakers into 2 bathrooms.

Bathroom 1 has its speakers wired to a Bluetooth amp in the loft. There
is an Amazon Echo Flex plugged in on the landing below. This is used by
SWMBO. Sound is OK and I can use it with LMS via iPeng and BT if
required but I don’t.

The en-suite also has in ceiling speakers (far higher quality KEFs) and
is wired back to the Zone 2 output on an AVR in my bedroom which has an
SB Touch as one of its inputs. I use this!

VB2.4 STORAGE *QNAP TS419P (NFS)
Living Room* Joggler & Pi4/Khadas -> Onkyo TXNR686 -> Celestion F20s

*Office* Joggler & Pi3 -> Denon RCD N8 -> Celestion F10s
*Dining Room* SB Boom

But I think my major question also involves how to power the squeezeamp?
How can one get the 120 VAC power to the 12 or 16 volt DC needed?

Thanks for the thoughts.

Re: [slim] In ceiling setup with squeezeamp

2021-04-22 Thread Paul Webster

When we had the kitchen redone I had the builders put in a couple of
ceiling speakers and asked them to run some cable in the void and then
come out at the back of a shelf and put a double power supply near the
shelf.

They actually ran spare electricity cable as the speaker cable ...
hopefully the next people in the house won't be confused by it!

This means that the SquezeAMP in its plastic case is readily available
on the shelf - but hidden behind something.

In my case, the "something" is a Joggler - which is used as a Squeezebox
controller.
Prior to the SqueezeAMP it was the Joggler that was the player as well
and I plugged its 3.5mm socket into a small amp.

I have another Joggler in the room as another controller so that we do
not have to move far to control things - oh and there is a real
Squeezebox Controller in there as well between 2 chairs so that we do
not even have to get up to control things.
Of course, it could all be controlled from a phone but this way is
generally faster and convenient for all.

One change I need to make is to put more audio insulation above one of
the speakers because it is easily heard in the room above.

[slim] In ceiling setup with squeezeamp

2021-04-22 Thread ericj

This community has been very helpful for quite some time (I was using
squeezeboxen long before logitech appeared) and for that I've been very
greatful.

We are having some work done in our kitchen, and I'm using this
opportunity to put in ceiling mounted speakers. It is behind a wall
from the main setup so sound gets lost from the main system,
particularly with the sounds of food preparation. The goal is not high
fidelity, but the chance to listen to music, news, podcasts, etc. while
using the kitchen. Quick on and off would facilitate use.

Current plans that I would like to bounce off the assembled wisdom here
would be to use a squeezeamp to drive two Polk RCi 80's ceiling
speakers. Currently this is powered by an older laptop 16v power
supply

So the questions I have surround how this should be installed?
1) What is the best way to power the squeezeamp?
2) should the squeezeamp and/or power supply be enclosed somehow?
3) I am planing on using an iphone with a material skin to control this
one (of probably 6 squeeze devices). Are there any alternatives (in
wall panel, etc.) that I should be considering

Alternately, are there good sites that make this simple? Most of what I
find through google assume a large home theater setup. My goal is
much more minimalist.

Thanks you all in advance
