Re: [slim] Is this a good way to compare interconnect cables?

2014-11-28 Thread cliveb

All of the sane people in the General Discussion forum will tell you the
same thing - there is no audible difference between any properly
constructed cables.

On the other hand, you could have some fun and post your question in the
Audiophile forum...

It is better than listening to one set of cables one day and another the
other day.

If you actually want it to be a good test, what you need is someone to
help you. Have your friend connect up the cables, without telling which
one is the left and which the right. Then listen until you decide if you
like left, right, or can't tell a difference. Have your friend change
the cables (to the same setup again, to the opposite setup, or to a
setup with the same cable for both channels - but make sure you don't
know which it is, and your friend doesn't know which ones are the more
expensive ones). Do the test at least 10 times (preferably more), and
see what the results are.

To try to judge the real from the false will always be hard. In this
fast-growing art of 'high fidelity' the quackery will bear a solid gilt
edge that will fool many people - Paul W Klipsch, 1953

In realities this is how I actually did the 1st test. My friend who gave
me the cables did switch cables for me while I was in blind mode.

I did the mono left and right switching on my own while blinded.

Michael I can get the cables for not much cost (a package of beer ;-))

[slim] Is this a good way to compare interconnect cables?

2014-11-27 Thread Kellen

I was handed a pair of interconnect cables to try out instead of my old
ones. These are much more expensive cables than mine.

I did some compares of them by switching back and forth . but
don't think I can hear any difference.

I then thought about a different way to do it all.

I take 1 of each different cable and connect one to left channel of
preamp and the other to right channel. I then switch my preamp to mono
and play a music file and listen to left and then right and then
left and then right and onwards. This allows me to listen to each
channel that is working with a different interconnect so that I can do a
compare.

I think I hear a difference. I'm just not sure if this test is truthful
or not. On opinion of all . is this a good practice for acurate
testing.

Many thanks in my advance for your advise.

Good. Save the money, spend it on new music, enjoy.

There's no need to make back-flips to justify the money you
(potentially) waste on cables and other gear. If you can't hear the
difference right away, then most likely it's not worth it.

Your results are actually expected.
There is no reason to that it should be any difference unless one of the
cables is seriusly broken .
