Re: [slim] OS X 10.6 & SB3: Use "Wake on Wireless LAN" feature?
Wow - cool, now it works!!! Somehow the SB3 got stuck initially but now, if I have Mac and SB3 in standby (connected via WLAN) and I push the red power button on the remote the following happens: On the first push I get "can't connect to squeezecenter" on the second push I get "Waking up squeezecenter" and the Mac starts up. However It seems that the Mac reacts too slowly, so the next I see again "Can't connect to squeezecenter..." When pushing the power button the third time SB3 becomes ready to play! Awesome - even if not yet really smooth. Regarding the comments above: Yes, Apple hardware and OS can do this, just tick "Wake for network access" in the OS 10.6 energy saving settings. Seems that even the WLAN router needs to comply with the requirements and the up to date equipment from Apple does, I have a "Time capsule". see http://www.macrumors.com/2009/08/28/a-closer-look-at-snow-leopards-wake-on-demand-feature/ LS -- lagosirio lagosirio's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15161 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=68345 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] OS X 10.6 & SB3: Use "Wake on Wireless LAN" feature?
Sure, but this is wireless. You can't use normal WOL because the wireless interface on the Mac is asleep. This sort of swaps it around so you notify the access point you want it to wake up and then the Mac checks in periodically and the AP tells it to wake up. bonjour ? is this a mac only thing ? Never heard of it in any other circumstance ? Does not a Mac support "normal" WOL ? -- Mnyb No it can NOT be controlled with iTunes Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=68345 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

We actually removed our Bonjour registration code recently because it wasn't useful. But maybe someone could look and see if there is an easier way to do this. -- andyg andyg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3292 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=68345 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] OS X 10.6 & SB3: Use "Wake on Wireless LAN" feature?
SB3 manages over wlan but the server must be wired to the router, this have nothing to do with the OS, same for Linux or win . The Case is that there is no wifi cards that supports WOL , only the ethernet nic /card port does. And it is not only an OS and BIOS setting it is also a hardware question. Not all network cards support wol and some motherboards don't do that either. So you can be unlycky either way even if the OS supports it and computer is wired to the router. I WOL my server with an wireless SB3 and a Wired BOOM and the controller . -- Mnyb No it can NOT be controlled with iTunes Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=68345 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] OS X 10.6 & SB3: Use "Wake on Wireless LAN" feature?
The new Apple OS X 10.6 offers a Wake on WLAN-feature. As I know SB3 can make use of "wake on LAN" - is it even possible to do that via WLAN in this case? I have tried it but nothing happens. My iMac is ready (waiting in standby). My airport hardware complies with the requirements. If SB3 is switched off in Squeezecenter-mode and I try to switch it on while the mac is in standby SB3 is blocked - no reaction. (SC version 7.3.4) If SB3 is not yet ready for this - is it thinkable that a new SB3 firmware will have that feature?
