Sonos will apparently support 'Microsoft DRMÂ’d music'
- not that I would buy *EVIL* music files.

2007-01-07 Thread parrydave

I've used the wmp plugin below to get round DRM before now. It captures
wmp output directly to WAV file, which it does direct from file quite
fast. The resulting WAVs were 700-900kbps so everything seems to be
preserved, except for the DRM bit. So if wmp can play it, you can
capture for slimserver use.

get the Free Software - WAV Output plug-in for Windows Media Player

I've tried soundtaxi. It converts well on the DRM from musicmatch. I
converted with no problem and the songs play well on slimp3.
Files from Itunes seem to skip. I've now tried to convert with a lower
level quality and some of them seem to convert fine but not all of
them.
It's not a bad deal.

But back to Michael's question...how does it work? If it's actually
stripping the DRM then sound-quality wise you're ok, but if it's
transcoding back to a lossy format or doing something along the lines
of what Boywonder suggests then you're losing sound quality.

[slim] Re: Another new music site supporting DRM

2006-09-08 Thread Boywonder

There is an easy way to convert WMA/WMA-DRM to MP3, it can be fairly
time consuming if you've got lots of files but it works.

And do you know the best part? All you need is Windows Media Player
(WMP).

Simply burn all your WMA or WMA-DRM files to a CD-RW using WMP, then
rip them back off using WMP ensuring you are ripping them as MP3 format
(Tools Options Rip Music Tab). And that's all the licence stuff
gone, no protection... just a plain honest-to-god MP3. Erase the disk,
then off you go again.

Kyle.

Does anyone know anything about Ramka's SoundTaxi
http://www.soundtaxi.info/english/index.php ? They say that SoundTaxi
can convert any file that can be played in MediaPlayer 9 or 10. Would
that include WMA DRM?

I can't (muster the energy to) find the link, but Sean Adams (Slim
Deveces CEO) recently stated on another forum something to the effect
that folks should stay tuned for an announcement regarding WMA DRM
support. Apologies if I've misconstrued what was said... please don't
take it from me alone, as I'm just writing what I think I know.
