[slim] Re: Beginning of Song Gets Cut Off
First off, I'm using a Harman Kardon AVR-635. I was told on another forum that some receivers, if connected via digital, will take a small amount of time to figure out what type of signal they are getting before outputting sound. I suppose that's why I don't have that problem with the RCA connection. -- alderash alderash's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6784 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26307 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Squeezebox does not interrupt the s/pdif signal when changing tracks. So, do you see any indicators changing on the front panel when this happens? -- seanadams seanadams's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26307 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Player Settings - Audio - Audio Startup Time can introduce a delay: Audio Startup Time Some audio receivers and D/A converters need a little extra time to start decoding audio from the player when playing back MP3 audio. You can specify how much time, in seconds, to wait after pressing play to start sending MP3 audio. The default value is 0, a value of 0.25 seconds works for many receivers. However I believe it only works when the SB starts up, not between tracks because the SB isn't stopping. -- Mark Lanctot Mark Lanctot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26307 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Also a few months ago on AVS Forum they were discussing a firmware update for the AVR-635. I believe the problem was a long pause switching between DSP modes. Not entirely related to your problem but worth looking into. -- Mark Lanctot Mark Lanctot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26307 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

SB2 and SB3 do not drop the s/pdif signal, so there is no resyncing invovled. If sync is lost during silence, then sending more silence would not make a difference. Maybe I should not have assumed that he had a new Squeezebox... unless it is an SB1, this is almost certainly a bug in the receiver. -- seanadams seanadams's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26307 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Sean, just for the sake of discussion I too have a similar problem, but ONLY on start up of the first song played after turning the player on. SB3. The first 1/2 second or so of the song is cut off. All songs played after that play just fine no matter how I play them.search, browse, playlist etc. This also happens if Pandora is the first thing to be played after the SB3 is turned on. I have thought about it being my pre amp too, could be I guess. I have tried turning the pre amp on and off while leaving the SB3 on and the problem does not occur so I really think that it's the SB3. And not that it's a huge problem, just a bit annoying. Over all I love the device. I have an Outlaw 990. SB3 is connected via coax playing all FLAC except Pandora obviously. Everything over Gigabit Ethernet, NO wireless. And no I haven't tried analog, doesn't bother me that much. Just FYI. Thanks. -- Robert_W Robert_W's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6540 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26307 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I'm ripping to FLAC. I just tried switching from a coaxial to an RCA cable it it works fine. Kinda' stinks 'cause I figured digital out would be the way to go. what kind of receiver do you have? It really sounds like the receiver is malfunctioning - it seems it is losing the s/pdif signal when it goes silent. It's not something I've heard of but I can think of a few possible ways it might happen. You might want to try the optical connection instead. -- seanadams seanadams's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26307 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

alderash wrote: I'm ripping to FLAC. I just tried switching from a coaxial to an RCA cable it it works fine. Kinda' stinks 'cause I figured digital out would be the way to go. It really depends on the quality of the DAC in your receiver. Which depends a lot on the age of it, since DACs get better following Moore's Law, new designs are a lot better than old ones, even fairly high end. The SqueezeBox 3 has a pretty good DAC. I would expect it to be better than a four or five year old 'theater receiver' I would not expect it to be better than something like a Meridian Control center, but the Meridian costs at least $8,000 How many of you use RCA? First of all, there is little point in asking such a poll question. The user community is not the same as the folks on the forums and mailing lists. So it is not at all clear what the answer would mean, even if you got a decent statistical sample. Do you mean how many folks use the SqueezeBox analog output RCA jacks? A lot, probably the majority. Or do you mean how many use the RCA jack for digital out (S/PDIF)? A lot of folks do that, but I do not expect it to be a majority. I have tested both the coax/rca digital out and the toslink (optical) link to my external DAC, and I can tell absolutely no difference between them.
