Yes, unfortunately the only external SlimServer the Squeezebox can access is SqueezeNetwork. When you first power it on, the Squeezebox will ask you to specify a music source. Just type in the appropriate IP address here. Every time it powers on, it'll give you an opportunity to change this (just press the up or down cursor keys on the remote). When it's on, press and hold the left cursor key for 5 seconds to get back to these menus. (BTW since I was wrong I deleted my first post. Have you tried this on an ip-address outside your own subnet? My squeezbox does not connect to anything outside my 255.255.255.0 subnet. I've acutally tried it from three diffent subnets. I have no problems connecting to a slimserver inside my subnet the way you describe. That password option is only for the web. It would still be nice if the whole thing would also work with just a DNS name and if there would be at least a kind of username/password protection between slimserver and squeezebox...
