Do remember that 6.5 is very very immature, it's not intended for use in any capacity other than testing. -- radish radish's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=77 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=23492 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: Mac Slimserver more resource hungry than Windows?
Thanks for the suggestions. I discovered that something appears to be screwed up with the 6.3 nightlies for Mac; once it finally occurred to me to try 6.2.2, I was able to install without any problem and, after sucking up system resources rescanning my files (yet again), I seem to be up and running now. I'll see if I have problems with dropouts any more, but I appear to not be suffering from the runaway server sucking up all available CPU time like 6.5 was (for me at least). If this one seems stable, I think I'll wait a good long time before trying 6.5 again... I'm hoping that an Intel dual core Mac mini will be a bit snappier when I'm doing other things than my Powerbook, though. Thanks again for the comments. -- mmcguff mmcguff's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5278 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=23492 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I was able to get rid of a similar problem by deleting some cache files. Weird little bug. The files in question were ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.preferencepanes.cache ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.preferencepanes.searchindexcache More details at these threads: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=22188 http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=22208 Cheers, Ariel -- trebejo trebejo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=730 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=23492 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Sorry I don't have much to add to solve your problem. But it certainly isn't normal behavior on a Mac. I'm running 6.2.2 on a 1 GHz G4, MacOS X 10.3.9 which is also day to day computer. If I'm playing songs, with a browser open to the Server webpage, it still only uses 2-5% of the processor. I know with different OS and slimserver versions, this isn't a great data point, but your machine should certainly be able to handle it better then it sounds like it is... Thanks. I just tried that, but the server still won't start if I load 6.3 (the log has lots of "Compilation failed at require in..." in it). If I reload 6.5, it will load. At first, CPU usage isn't too bad; however, once I start playing a track, it goes in and starts sucking up all the remaining CPU time and skipping. I don't know the cause of your main problem, if it's not scanning your music files. But could do no harm to be sure your Web browser is not looking at the Squeezebox page. As regards downgrading, I think there is a difference in the database file. Im addition to deleting the preference pane, you should probably delete the SlimServer preferences (this may not be needed) in the Preferences section of your Library at com.slimdevices.slim.plist. and the database at silimserversql.db in the SlimServer section of the Caches. -- danco danco's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=210 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=23492 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
