Re: [slim] Re: Saving playlists with remote

2006-12-13 Thread Phil Meyer
My only problem with the add.hold button is that sometimes I get
impatient (in a hurry) and let go prematurely (let the ribbing begin!)
Then I have to go rescue the track that I've accidently removed from
the playlist. Would it possible to reverse these? ie. press + for
PlaylistMan, and +.hold for remove track from playlist? In my
experience (albeit very limited) that would work more smoothly.

You can achieve that by creating a custom IR map file.

I can't remember if Custom.map inherits Default.map, or whether you have to
duplicate all function keys. You may want to experiment, but I know the
following works:

In your slimserver installation folder, go into server\IR and copy Default.map
to Custom.map. Add the following to the end of the file:

[playlist]
add.single  = addmenu
add.hold= add

In the web UI, go to your player settings - Remote. Select Custom for remote
button functions.

The default button functions remain unchanged, so you can swap back if you like.

Thanks for the simple instructions, Phil! I think even I can probably do
that without screwing things up!

Ah, Phil you sneaky ol' so-and-so! Went to have a look at the latest
PlaylistMan plugin, and guess who the author is? And guess which plugin
overides the original 'Save playlist' remote command with another one?

Well, yes I am the author of that plugin. I didn't realise you were using it.

There's no need for the save playlist plugin if you are using PlaylistMan
(there's an option to save the playlist within my plugin).

For others reading this thread, Save Playlist uses press hold play on the now
playing screen. My plugin doesn't do anything with the play button in this
mode; my plugin provides a menu option to save the playlist when the user
presses holds the add button.

I believe the two used to work side by side without problems, although I
disabled Save Playlist quite a long time ago (when I pinched the functionality
for my plugin :-)).

I recently found that my PlaylistMan plugin doesn't work if I have TrackStat
plugin installed, because this overrides play.hold.

It's an annoying feature of plugins that only one can register a custom map for
any keys in a particular mode. The only way around this (to get many plugins
to use different keys in the same mode) would seem to be to manually edit a IR
keyboard map file to invoke the correct functions.

Probably a silly idea..

I thought you had it nailed, kdf, but the SavePlaylist plugin is
checked/enabled, so I continue to be stumped. Any other ideas? Is
there a particular debug that might help identify the problem? Maybe I
should confirm that a particular file is present in the plugin
directory? (or elsewhere?)
Thanks!

Have you got any other non-standard plugins enabled? I discovered recently
that if more than one plugin tries to override buttons in the same mode (eg.
playlist for now playing), one of them wins, and the other plugin button
registrations don't work.

I have an old version of Playlist Manager, and SuperDateTime - I think
everything else is standard. It might be the PlaylistMan - I was
thinking of updating to the latest anyway, so I'll do that and report
back.
Thanks for the tip!

Yes I am using other software to create playlist and maintain my music.
Amarok.
This is a brilliant application, only availble in Linux.
However if I listening to squeezebox and hear something I lke, it's
still a case of having to remeber it next time i go to the server
where Amarok is mounted.

You can nearly do this using the Save Playlist plugin (which I guess is
what you have been using so far).

1 - find album
2 - play to start a new playlist
3 - find another album
4 - add to add to end of playlist
5 - repeat 3 4
6 - go to Plugins / Save Playlist
7 - name and save the playlist

If you subsequently want to add more, you can: load the playlist, add
stuff, save it again, you have to repeat the name (and if you give the
same name you DON'T get asked if you want to overwrite an existing
playlist, which I suppose mught be considered a bug).

Still, I think this is what you were looking for, more or less.

I,m trying to work out the best way to add to an existing playlist.
Ideally I would like say select random songs and then when I hear
something I like easily add it to a particular playlist;
without having to stop the currently selected random list.
One way to do would be from the web browser, where you could select a
playlist in the left hand panel and then just drag and drop the song
from the right hand panel into it.

Sounds like you need the proposed flagman plugin, that has been
discussed at http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=18982

Or, if you are prepared to use your computer instead of the Player UI,
consider using instead some different software which is much better at
playlist generation and maintenance ... eg MusicMagic Mixer, which also
features Slimserver integration (for a fee).
