Yeah it's elements of BSD running on a Mach Kernel so it's not really
LINUX at all as Linux is a Kernel used to power GNU/Linux Operating
Systems. However it's not really Free BSD but it is based on Free BSD,
so it would have been more accurate to have said part of the BSD family.
Anyway I'm just being a pedant and none of this really matters. I hear
it's quite nice and it can be made more UN*X like (Darwin etc).

For more info read this : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OS_X

[slim] Re: Windows to Linux to Mac...

2006-02-02 Thread mikerob

I use a Mac Mini as a dedicated music server for my Squeezeboxes and
have had no issues with it (other than the usual set of bugs you get
when trying out the nightly releases...)

You don't need to do any other configuration to install and run
Slimserver.

There are a couple of Mac specific points you should be aware of.

Slimserver doesn't support yet Mac aliases but you can create symbolic
links to do the same thing using the terminal interface (see FAQ for
details)

Also, there are limited options for encoding and tagging FLAC files on
OSX. I've played around with the few applications available but I
don't think any of them yet have the functionality and usability of
iTunes.
