Indeed. It looks perfect and cheap. Re: [slim] Recommendation for linear power supply (interference with AM radio)
I've got the GlobTek and it works fine. One thing that I did notice was that while all of the RF noise from the power supply is gone in the AM freq. there still some noise coming out of the SB itself presumably from the little switching supplys from within the SB. Not nearly as loud as the powersupply though, so the improvement is significant and worth it. Just be prepared for some leftover noise from the SB internal switching supplies. -- Max F Max F's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9464 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34330 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Recommendation for linear power supply (interference with AM radio)
Whenever listening to the lower end of the AM radio band, it picks up noise from the switching power supply of my slimp3 or sb1. I have to unplug the power from the slimp3/sb1 (unplugging from wall not necessary) in order to eliminate the noise when listening to an AM station. If I understand correctly, switching to a linear power supply would eliminate this problem, correct? I know I'm not the first to replace the power supply. Any recommendations on one? I certainly don't want to spend lots of money on one. I see this Radio Shack one which can do 5V/2A, but I'm not sure if it's switching or linear. It's also a little more expensive than I'd prefer. So any advice on decent, inexpensive power supplies would be very appreciated! http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?parentPage=familysummary=summarytechSpecs=techSpecscurrentTab=featurescp=2032056.2032136.2032153custRatings=custRatingsfeatures=featuresaccessories=accessoriesproductId=2049697support=supporttab=summary As a secondary question, I know the supply that SD ships is 5V/2A, but is that actually what's necessary? I see some supplies that are 4.5V, or 6V, or perhaps slightly under 2A, and it makes me wonder if any of these would be acceptable? BTW, I'm not concerned about the size. Big is fine as long as I don't have the noise! -- TheShanMan TheShanMan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10724 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34330 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Big is fine as long as I don't have the noise! There are enough 5V supplies out there that you shouldn't settle for a different voltage. If it's not tightly regulated it could fluctuate beyond what it's rated, so you could be looking at seven volts from one rated at 6. There is over/under voltage protection inside the newer squeezeboxes (not sure about slimp3,v1,etc.), but the display and DAC could stop functioning temporarily at low voltages, for example. The one referenced above seems like a perfect choice for your needs. -- Skunk Skunk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2685 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34330 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
