Yes, I have this one --

am very pleased with it. It is fed by an SBR connected to mysb and
outputs to two BW DM600 speakers.

For a slightly snazzier (and expensive) T amp, I've been *very* happy
with this one:

Cheers all.

Both the Muse and the Audio source fit tag bill perfectly. I'll see if I
can track one down

Btw , just to clear up any confusion I meant a Logitech Receiver. By
using two wireless routers as wireless repeaters I've managed to
successfully extend my wireless network over a good proportion of my
smallholding.

I use a class t-amp from think geek (omni products, dayton ) in my
garage with a receiver as a source.
Simple on off and volume, even battery power (!?)
It works and takes up minimal room ( 5X5X2). Must use efficient
speakers.

An old receiver is great for a garage system, especially if you still
listen to FM. I love the old receivers from the mid 70s to early 80s.
Pioneer, Yamaha, Kenwood, Sansui, Marantz. Classic, and can be had for
cheap at yard sales and thrift stores.

+100

what I just was typing but JJ was first.. and they look great to esp a
70's reciever a Marantz ,they don't make them like that anymore . From
the 80's an old Luxman amp looks very cool .
And while at the thriftstor/flea market/garage sale pick up some more
speakers on the cheap if you blow them when having a garden party or
similar :)

I agree the second hand receiver route is certainly one way to go, but
if you just want a basic, built like a tank, one input amp, I use one of
these

http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/amplifiers/products/a100

I use t as a zone amp, connected to an sb3. Cheap is relative of
course, but $200 seems like good value.

How about this:

Not as pretty, and no auto on/off, but it is cheap and sounds great.

I don't know if the AudioSource Amp100 is available in the UK, but I
have a couple and they are great. No tone controls or loudness button,
but simple, robust, cheap, and sound good.

[slim] Simple cheap amplifier recommendation please?

2012-09-07 Thread ModelCitizen

Hello,

I'm after a simple, no frills and inexpensive amplifier for a Receiver
to run a pair of 40 watt 4/8 ohm speakers.

It'll be going in my garage so should be robust.

Tone controls and loudness button would be useful.. not bothered about
balance. All amps I can find are too overblown for what I want.

Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks.
