That was a while back!

What I do now is keep all the iTunes database files on the server PC,
but have iTunes running on a desktop PC - pressing [SHIFT] when running
iTunes lets you select where your default music database is opened from.

I've been looking for how to do this for more than a year, but I have
never been able to find it.

I will toss some of the search terms I used into this reply so perhaps
this post will be easier to find on the 'net

I searched for things like

squeezeserver on windows home server media smart server whs network
share UNC path mapped network drive squeezebox server add-in registry
key server.prefs location clear library and rescan everything

Re: [slim] Slimserver & iTunes on different PC's - Playlist Problem

2007-09-06 Thread capellow

Have just upgraded from SS V6.5.2 to SS V6.5.4 and had to repeat the
service logon parameters.
Also had to reset the UNC pathname since this was not carried across in
the upgrade.

regards,

CP

Re: [slim] Slimserver & iTunes on different PC's - Playlist Problem

2007-09-05 Thread capellow

I have re-visited this problem after recently purchasing an ipod for the
car and wanted to get this Playlist issue resolved.

Firstly I checked the debug "cmd" window where remote computer mapping
worked with either the mapped drive letter or the UNC path. My first
problem was traced to specifying the correct UNC path for the "ITUNES
MUSIC LIBRARY.XML LOCATION" which should have been set to:
\\192.168.25.10\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music Library.xml
This was confirmed to work in the debug cmd window.

To get this to work under the Windows Server 2003 Service we need to
change the account that Slimserver uses to run as a service - by
default the "local system" account is used. I created an additional
administrator account name, e.g. "slimadmin", and associated password
specifically for this service - a separate name and password is used
just in case I changed my default administrator account password at a
later date. I then assigned this account name and password to the
Service (See "Log On" tab under Slimserver Service properties.)

Stop and Start the Slimserver service.
The above UNC pathname was then inserted against the "ITUNES MUSIC
LIBRARY.XML LOCATION" and was accepted!
[Note that the mapped drive letter still does not work - but not a
problem in view of the UNC mapping solution.]
I rescanned my Music Library and my iTunes playlists appear through the
slimserver. :-)

Thanks to VooDooD for the hint.

regards,
CP

Have tried both of the following formats without success!
Here at the error messages seen.

New value for iTunes Music Library.xml Location rejected:
Oops - "\\CAP\iTunes Music Library.xml" doesn't seem to be a valid
file. Try again.

2007-05-14 Thread VooDooD

Use a UNC path instead...

\\machinewithitunes\share\MyMusic\iTunes

I also found that I had to install a codec pack on my 2K3 server to get
it to allow the playback of m4a files.

[slim] Slimserver & iTunes on different PC's - Playlist Problem

2007-05-13 Thread capellow

On PC#1 (Slimserver): Running Slimserver 6.5.1 under Windows 2003 Server
with all music stored on a separate partition. (C: OS / D: Music)
On PC#2 (CAP): Running iTunes 7.02.16 under WindowsXP SP2 with all
music stored on a mapped drive on the W2K3 Server.

This configuration is great since I want to use iTunes to import or
export music to/from my music Server PC under the stairs.

I have a mapped drive on the XP machine of "My Music" where the iTunes
database is held.
I can see it on the W2K3 Server under drive Z:
If I explore "Z:" I can see the mapped drive "CAP\My Music", and it
contains the file "iTunes Music Library.xml", which I believe is where
the iTunes Playlists are stored.

Slimserver is running as Service on the W2K3 Server.

When I set Slimserver to point to this, (under Server Settings >>
iTunes >> ITUNES MUSIC LIBRARY.XML LOCATION), I get the following error
message at the top of the page:

New value for iTunes Music Library.xml Location rejected:
Oops - "z:\iTunes Music Library.xml" doesn't seem to be a valid file.
Try again.

If I stop the Service and run in a CMD window in debug mode - the web
page accepts the "z:\iTunes Music Library.xml" entry.
I discard and rescan the database and my iTunes Playlists are
accessible through the Slimserver and Squeezebox 2 systems.

Reverting back to running Slimserver as a Service and the iTunes
Playlist's are lost on the next rescan at 4am the following morning.

My debugging commands are:
"C:\Program Files\SlimServer\server\slim.exe" --d_plugin --d_source
--d_remotestream

My Version info is:
SlimServer Version: 6.5.1 - 11206 - Windows Server 2003 - EN - cp1252
Perl Version: 5.8.8 MSWin32-x86-multi-thread
MySQL Version: 5.0.22-community-nt
AlienBBC-v1.06_6.5

Any suggestions resolving this problem, since iTunes is the simplest
way to make up playlists?

regards,

Colin
