I guess I'll wait for 7.1 or 7.2 and try then.

The problem with this as a strategy, of course, is that you are relying
on someone else with the same peculiarity of set up as you have (there
must be something out of the ordinary, as lots of us have had 7.0
running successfully) to report and identify the problem so that
someone can fix it.

Now if you are happy with 6.5.4 then that's great, you can enjoy the
music, but its best not to assume that you will be able to try a future
7.x without making at least some attempt to identify the problem.

IMHO.

Or maybe I just don't care. 6.5.4 works, SC7 doesn't (for me). I'm
done.

Sounds the same to of too. I REALLY think it is impossible for the
server to influence sound quality as such. Of course changes to
transcoding and player firmware could in theory have an effect.

The most likely explanation I can think of for it sounding better is
that for some reason you are now playing at higher volumes than you
were before (maybe some setting is now different?) - that always sounds
better.

IMHO.

Re: [slim] Squeezecenter upgrade

2008-03-20 Thread Charles Calkins

Hi Guys:
I guess the best thing about upgrading to the Squeeze center is that
in my system it seems that now my solid state preamp sounds more like a
tube preamp. I'm using a solid state pre now to do an A versus B CD
player comparison. The remote lets me switch between aux 1 and 2 like
right now. My AVA T7ECR pre doesn't have that ability. It's volume or
mute. In the next couple of days I'll put my AVA T7ECR back in the
loop. Stay tuned!! More info. to follow.

Charlie

Re: [slim] Squeezecenter upgrade

2008-03-20 Thread rmassey

I'd have to disagree. I cannot get SC7 to work at all on my W2003
server. It barely plays music and then stops. I even let it stew over
night and index all the music files. I gave up and went back to 6.5.4.

I guess I'll wait for 7.1 or 7.2 and try then.

IMHO Squeezecenter is a better program than Slimserver. Anybody agree?
 Disagree?

Based on my experience, I disagree.

Sorry to hear about the problems you are having with Squeeze center.
In my case it was just like putting on a clean pair of jeans. No
problems what so ever.

[slim] Squeezecenter upgrade

2008-03-19 Thread Charles Calkins

Yesterday I upgraded to Squeezecenter from Slimserver. I honestly
believe that things sound much better since the upgrade. I'm sure all
of you have read about the digital edge topic. Most of it seems to
have gone away since the upgrade. IMHO Squeezecenter is a better
program than Slimserver. Anybody agree? Disagree?

Cheers
Charlie

Sounds the same to me (playing FLAC native).
Much nicer interface (album covers!) - and built-in support for Pandora
and MusicIP.
I love it to death... but the music sounds the same.
