Re: [slim] too much bass

OK, my bad, I should looked before posting.

The InguzDSP plugin is compatible with SC7, It doesn't say if it has
been updated for 7.1 yet though. Must plugins can however be made to
work just by changing a config file telling it to run on 7.1 instead.
The wiki page needs a little editing.

Looks like the InguzDSP plugin hasn't been updated in a while then.
SlimServer is the old name for SqueezeCenter, it was changes for v7.
Significant changes were made to the plugin architecture for SC7 so the
plugin will need to be updated to make it work with SC7.

Thanks all for your replies. The issue is at the amp. I have tried

better.

I can't install InguzDSP plug-in. It says I need slimserver but when I
click on the link to download only Squeezecenter is available for
download, and I have the latest version of SC software already
installed.

Thanks.I read that this plugin requires a lot of processing power. Is
my Dell work station 690 with 1.60 Hz Xeon processor and 2GB ram
adequate for the task? I don't mind buying an external EQ like DEQ2496
if integrating and configuring it easy and not too much time consuming.

I forget what the SBR is set to by default, but the SB3 output level is
set to 50% out of the box. I found this to be significantly lower than
my existing equipment at the time, i.e. my cd player.

It shouldn't impact frequency response, but perhaps bumping up the
output level of the SBR would help? It's certainly easy enough to try
by using the volume buttons on the SBC.

How is the SBR connected to your amp? It sounds like you may have
connected it to an input designed for a turntable (might be labeled
"Phono"). Those connection apply an equalization curve which increases
the bass a lot.

End-to-end, the Squeezebox system should color your music very very
little.

What inputs are you using on your stereo? Some folks inadvertently use
the "phono" input on their stereo, which has an inappropriate
equalization curve, level and impedance mismatch.

[slim] too much bass

2008-08-17 Thread chinaski

I have a duet system and am hearing far too much bass when using the
system. It's a standard system with the server wired to the router and
the receiver/controller wireless. I have ripped the collection as FLAC,
and when I play anything the bass is overwhelming. I can play a cd
through the system and it sounds perfect; play the same cd through the
duet and I get the bass.

Not sure if this is the right forum, but putting it out there for
suggestions.

Thanks in advance...

Sometimes, moving the speakers just a couple of inches may make more of
a difference than you may imagine. My dear old Duntech PCL-15's are so
fragile when it comes to speaker placements that it's just
unbelievable

When they're too close to the walls, they sound like they're almost
broken When things are right, it's like magic.

Don't underestimate the issue of speaker placements, most of the things
you just can't fix with equalizers...

My guess would be to try over and over again with speaker placements,
and when you're happy, try equalizing

A good choice for this is Dacron (or just about any polyester fiber).
This is the stuff in pillows, stuffed animals, etc. It's also used in
lots of speaker enclosures, as well.

My AE5s, which because of room layout issues (which is a code phrase
for "my better half wants them over there, against the wall") were
delivering way more bass than I like, now have ports stuffed full o'
Dacron. Much tighter low end and much appreciated by everyone except
my 19 year old son, who's taste in music is simply awful right now.
(Unless you like to hear someone rapping about laffy taffy, trunks full
of junk, and getting crunk in the club... if only I could get him to
listen to my old Public Enemy or NWA albums.)

This is a spectrum analyzer, and it's provided for information/looks
only.

Just to emphasize what others have said - speaker placement is
everything. Even minor adjustments in placement can have a large
effect. And if you can't play around with placement, play around with
the listening position...

Any way to move the speakers around? getting them further from the
corners of the room?
This will probably have a significant impact on room gain and hence the

Try the Inguz plugin.

Although at first sight it appears to deal with a lot of complicated
room-correction functionality, you can ignore that and use it for tone

[slim] Too much bass:(

2008-02-21 Thread salama

Hi,
I have SB3. Unfortunately the amp i run it through has no tone
controls. The end result is overall too bassy for my tastes. Is there
any way to change the tone control in the server software? There
appears to be some kind of equaliser showing when it plays. Is this
just for decoration or can it be accessed and adjusted?
TIA.

BTW this is my first post so apologies if i have placed it in the wrong
