[slim] Turning SHN Files into FLAC files

2008-12-22 Thread travitz

What is the best way to turn a SHN(Shorten) File into a flac without
having it turned into a wave file first? I have DB Power amp Music
convertor but can not figure out if I can convert with out having the
SHN files decoded first to a wace file

Why not just make it a .wav file? Unshorten it, then flac it, and be happy.

On a good operating system, you can pipe the output of shn into flac,
but the result is really the same, as shn is lossless.

Other than taking a few hundred megabytes of disk space for a few
minutes, what's the downside?

I have about 1500 Dead concerts that I need to make FLAC since
Squeezebox does not support SHN anymore

I understand why you want to convert. I don't understand why you don't
just setup a batch program to convert them first to .wav and then
instantly convert them to flac.

To be honest I would not know how to start to set up a batch program and
so what you are saying. I only know how to convert one at a time

When I say one at a time I mean one show at a time which might have 20
songs in the entire show. Not one track at a time

I don't use it myself because I use Linux, but foobar2000 should be
able to do the conversion for you. Check out this link:

dBpoweramp will convert directly from shorten to flac. It also has a
batch converter built in. You can choose folders or individual tracks
to convert.

I edited my post above to add batch converter directions in case you
missed it. If you have a lot to convert, just set it up leave it
going overnight.

Re: [slim] Turning SHN Files into FLAC files

2008-12-22 Thread dsdreamer

If you have the shorten decoder installed and the FLAC codec installed,
dbpoweramp should be able to convert a whole directory tree from
shorten to flac using the dBpoweramp Batch Converter program. I can't
try it 'cos I don't have any shorten files to test it with, but in
principle it should be just like converting from Apple Lossless (ALAC)
to FLAC, which I do with ease using this method.

Best regards,
