You don't have to read it - just read the other forums which are quite specific. Or is that too simple? Yes. That means I would have to subscribe to all these forums by e-mail. Have them delivered to seperate folders and make sure I specify the right address when posting. That's a major hassle. A small talk forum for off topic subjects is allright by me. Re: [slim] enough "election" off topic discussions
The sub-heading of the "General Discussion" Forum is The Kitchen Sink. I would think a thread about the recent US election comes under that category. As does a thread about anything else. Maybe some clarification is necessary. But why do some people, every time they come across a thread they dislike then try and get it closed/removed? It only seems to be a few but the same names appear regularly. Why on earth cant they just stop reading it? I don't live in the US so I soon stopped reading the election thread (interesting though it was). Re: [slim] enough "election" off topic discussions
enough "election" off topic discussions... so i will start another one??? Well unfortunately it has now descended into personal insults to try and force opinions across, so i expect it will now get locked and agree it probably should now. Shame, as i dont see a massive problem in general and think that 2 thread complaining of a single thread that no one has to read is a massive over reaction guys. I enjoy a chat with my fellow SB community members about other general stuff. I would like to hear clarification from the forum admins as to whether they only allow General Discussions about Slim stuff or General discussion. -- autopilot *Lounge :* Squeezebox Classic -> Cambridge Audio Azur 640a -> Mission 701's. *Bedroom :* Squeezebox Receiver -> Trends TA10.1 Class-T -> Kef Cresta 1's *Office :* Softsqueeze -> Logitech Active 5.1's. *Kitchen :* Squeezebox Boom -coming soon- *Roaming : * Squeezebox Controller -> Logitech mm28 portable speakers / Shure E2c's *Controllers :* Squeezebox Controller x 2 + Logitech Harmony one *Server :* SC7.3b (Vista 64) + AlienBBC, iPlayer & MusicIP headless. Re: [slim] enough "election" off topic discussions
One thread in fora of many thousands about an event of global significance doesn't seem too much bear - especially when conducted with pretty good restraint and reasoned arguments. Had it degenerated into the mother of all flame wars it would be different. Ignore it if you don't like it! But my 2 pennies worth about the election result is that the repercussions around the world could be enormous. US foreign policy might change to one of "think first", then barge in mob-handed. The perceived war-mongering stance of Bush is hopefully a thing of the past - which is why Obama's victory has been so well received outside the US. slim should make an "off topic" forum. the "general discussion" forum can be misconstrued to mean anything, even though in practice it generally has meant "general discussion about slim." a forum for topics NOT about slim stuff would be a good idea, imo. -- MrSinatra www.LION-Radio.org Using: Squeezebox2 (primary) / SBR (secondary) / SBC - w/SC 7.3b - Win XP Pro SP3 - 3.2ghz / 2gig ram - D-Link DIR-655 MrSinatra's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2336 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54835 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
