I wonder what it is that they're doing on the stream side when they modify or add their opening "brought to you by" portion (that doesn't work on SB but does in Foobar2000 or other computer based players). By the way, now the mp3 stream just starts with the actual content stream (no "this stream is brought to you by"). FYI, I notice that the "fixed" streams for WNYC AM & FM now show the stream to be 32k from the very beginning of the welcome message (rather than the 192k welcome message switching to 32k with the content stream, where previously it then "bombed". So that must have somehow been the problem. I see that the URL has a list of formats in it, starting with AAC, so that's probably why it gets chosen first. As another test, I just opened up SqueezePlay and chose WNYC AM 820 from the Internet Radio list in my local Squeezebox Server. Here's the URL I ended up with: http://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?id=s21605&formats=aac,ogg,mp3,wmpro,wma,wmvoice,real&partnerId=16 That definitely works -- I see the AAC stream being converted to FLAC for streaming to SqueezePlay. I guess the Radio is getting the AAC stream natively, not sure. But it definitely works. WNYC on my Touch via MySB and SBS and TinySBS is just the intro loop. But not in Squeezebox players (via SbS 7.5.4 or mysb.com; TOUCH or RADIO or SQUEEZEPLAY). And just as a test, I can't get these streams to work (other than welcome message) in ITUNES either. Foobar2000 seems to play fine, but this may have a better mechanism for handling the "switch" from 192 message stream to 32k content stream. I see that the RadioTime web page has a problem tuning to 820, tries a few streams but does finally succeed. It succeeds more quickly with WNYC 93.9. So both work there. Can you try on your end sometime and confirm that you also no longer get these via radiotime (Like you, I listen to these stations every day. By the way, not important, but both those URLs you posted are .pls files and inside (the actual stream) is the same underlying stream I was trying: http://wnycfm.streamguys.com/ Again, I can play on foobar2000 just fine. But I tried as a stream on ITUNES. And it also stops after playing the intro message. I really suspect this is somehow connected to the welcome message being 192k and then the stream being 32k (changing bit rate). But try using the RadioTime app to get the right streams -- I know that works because I listen to WNYC all the time.
