Don't take Logitech's silence as a sign that things aren't happening.
LT don't announce these things before they're in place (look at the
recent Napster enhancement as an example).

I'm quite late to Squeezebox, but are you aware of the despotify.se command

good things about it, and it may well help in adding spotify as a plugin?

Amen to that, but I can't wait:). With this and the rumoured iPhone app
Spotify would be awesome. The catalogue grows daily and it's interface
is so much better than Napster.

I did say relatively obscure, I mean realtive to say Coldplay or
Radiohead LOL

Didn't realise you could check out what music was on Napster before
signing up. Seems very good, may give it a 7 day trial.

However without SB integration it is all academic anyway :(

Napster's library is very good, much better than Rhapsody IMO. Spirit
of the West are well catered for on Napster - 'Two Headed' seems the
most popular album. Ned's Atomic Dustbin there too - there not that
obscure though, they were very popular with students when i was at
college.

Just out of interest what sort of quality is Napster in and do they
really have a good depth of music? I have been amazed that relatively
obscure bands like Spirit of the West and Ned's Atomic Dustbin are well
catered for on Spotify.

Having played with it I would say the radio is not as good as LastFM,
it doesn't have the same quality although it does play a lot more stuff
by the artist you have selected i.e. SOTW radio played 95% SOTW songs
(however they included the Pogues as well which I *hate* )

And yes I do have one beta slot left, if you want it then PM me on here
with your e-mail addy and I will send you one.

It seems that Spotify welcome "partners" I wonder if they would be
accomodating if I wanted to write my own Spotify plugin.

I am guessing with Napster that they dont fundamentally want to deal
with Logitech so other than my lack of experience of PERL this would be
the main thing to othercome.

simbo;347641 Wrote:

It's and ad supported free service, the extract below sums it up well,
it's taken from this blog
http://www.robertnyman.com/2007/09/05/spotify-blows-me-away/

WHAT IS IT THEN?
Spotify will, if it continues to deliver such a great experience as it
currently does, revolutionize the way we access and listen to music!
It’s like Joost but for music, with outstanding performance and without
the stupid geographic restrictions the video service has.

Basically, it’s an iTunes-like interface where you can listen to radio
adapted to what decade and music type your like, or, and this is what
really blows me away, search for any song or artist you want to hear,
and it is immediately streamed to you! Then you can also create
playlists of any songs you like.

Just imagine the power of having any music you want to listen to just
by your fingertips, without the need of transferring it to each and
every computer where you want to listen to it. Imagine having all the
music you ever owned, and more, available to you at any computer or
location. Amazing!
