Re: [slim] Seagate Constellation CS 3TB

The only thing I'd like to say here is don't let a WD Green age much
more than 2 yearsÂ… unless it is a very old one (the 1st 1TB GPs were way
more reliable)

The WD Green I am using now is 2 1/2 years old so I guess it is due for
a replacement. My computer is not on 24/7 so that might extend it's life
a bit.
I was hoping someone might have some knowledge of the Constellation HD ;
I know it can be used in NAS servers but I am not sure if it would be a
good choice for a desktop

I would not swap a perfectly OK HD just because of age. Usually crashes
happen the first few weeks.
In case you have several backups (you should have anyway) no need for
action.
YMMV :)

Michael you may well be right on that. Frankly I have yet to have a Hard
Drive fail before it gets too small for my data. However I ended up
buying a WD Black 4TB monster and have transfered my music to it. This
gives me a great deal of room to add music and a new(old) back up drive.

That should work OK. Have you looked at the WD Red line? They have
higher MTBFs and a 3 year warranty.

The WD Black has a 5 year warranty. The MTBF is no longer published for
these drives but I believe it would be a higher rate than the Red drives

Just to clear, do you mean a higher rate of failure, or a higher time
between failures?

Andy
