Re: [slim] Several Problems
Hi I discovered that the network switch my server was connected to was in a strange state and dropping packets. After a reboot the problem now appears to have been resolved. I suspect I may have to replace the switch as a couple of years ago it stopped working for several weeks, I was about to throw it out and thought I would try it again one more time and it's been working from that point until now. Thanks everyone for their suggestions. -- stewa stewa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=49445 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=90044 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

stewa;654317 Wrote: Hi I have a Squeezebox 3 and a Duet connected to Squeezebox server running on WHS 2011. I recently moved from a PogoPlug ARM setup to WHS 2011 to try and get around a number of problems I have been having for a period of time. However moving the server does not seem to have fixed the problems. Problems 1) When I go start the SB 3 ( which is connected to my main Hi-Fi setup ) it regularly has to be powered off before it will connect to the server. I normally have to do this to the Duet Receiver as well. 2) My network gets flooded and I have to restart the SB 3. The SB 3 seems to flood the network. Whilst the network being flooded other activities on the network come to a grinding halt and Music on the Squeezebox only plays for a few seconds every minute. 3) This is more of a general issue than a problem. The system is just not wife friendly. Every time I go to show my wife how to use the system, something goes wrong or the interface on the web or controllers are too complex to be wife or family friendly. I have had the system for several years but have had varying problems over the years which have left me feeling that the solution it not really consumer friendly. b.t.w. I have worked in IT for over 20 years, so do not have any issues with setting the system up etc. If I could at least resolve the issue where having to restart the SB 3 and Receiver frequently then I might be able to persuade the family to use the system. Phil Leigh;654319 Wrote: Try giving the SB3 and the Server static IP addresses. And, indeed, the duet and the controller. The 'flooding' worries me, though. Are the systems re-downloading the firmware (this happens if they switch between MySqueezebox.com, and your own SBS server), and perhaps doing that repeatedly for some reason? I cannot think why that should repeat, though, but if the flood is more than a minute something quite strange is going on. I'm unfamiliar with either the PogoPlug, or WHS, but whichever you use, DO make sure they are NOT providing a DHCP service in addition to any DHCP service your router might be providing. Phil Leigh;654319 Wrote: Also make sure that either the SB3 or the Server is WIRED to the router This is an interesting suggestion; I was wondering if the 'flood' (which is puzzling me) might be some kind of 'discovery' protocol not working happily. Maybe discovery doesn't work well if everything is wireless, that is possible because wireless takes time to authenticate and some protocol time-outs could(=might) be too short to accommodate that delay and so keep retrying. Maybe. Not sure. Wiring those systems is a good idea - even just to 'check' if it isn't normally what you'd prefer. I've one other suggestion - just for a test. Disconnect your internet connection - if you can without upsetting anything else too much - so that nothing is trying to reach mysqueezebox.com, or reloading firmware, or trying to auto-update, or anything like that. (My idea is to somehow reduce the network loads so that we can see what 'aspect' of the SB operations is causing the flood and the other problems.) Keep the internet disconnected, and then switch off the SB3 and duet and controller, then switch them on again - so that this second time they will have absolutely no need to re-load their firmware because nothing will have changed. Do post back with any results you get, good or bad. Good luck. It certainly ought to be working, and the family ought to be able to enjoy it, too. regards, Atlantic -- Atlantic Atlantic's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44239 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=90044 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

How are you measuring/detecting flooding vs normal traffic ? You need to identify the cause of the flood as it might not be a single device but a clash of devices/systems causing the problem. When next flooding event happens - disconnect each network device in turn leaving SB3 and server until last. Leave some time between each disconnect as it may take a minute or so if devices are clashing. Use something like Wireshark to capture network traffic. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=90044 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Several Problems
Thanks for the responses I have given the WHS a static IP Address and also reconfigured my DHCP range on my router as I believe their may have been a risk of IP address conflicts. Both SB 3 and Receiver are wireless, however the Server is on the LAN and connected via 200Mbps Homeplugs to the router. I could connect my SB 3 to the LAN, however the Receiver is in the kitchen and I am unable to run cable to it. I will keep a close eye on the stability of the system over the next few days. -- stewa stewa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=49445 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=90044 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
