Re: [slim] Songbird

2009-02-25 Thread matthijskoopmans

I have been playing with Songbird for a few days now. I like where it is
headed, and it is much better (on a windows machine) than sluggish
iTunes.

It would be very good to have a songbird integration like iTunes, as
Songbird recognises more formats in the library (including FLAC).

I think it would be nice to have it as a desktop control.

I'm curious about which direction and how tight you're picturing the
integration. But I like all of that. I had a pretty good experience
with Songbird on the first try - the artist flickr images were really
nice.

Re: [slim] Songbird

I gotta wonder - what's with the Songbird logo
bird farting? :-D

It seems to be referencing something specific. It
appears everywhere the logo appears.

Examples:

http://69.90.210.150/themes//gespaa_customized/extn_birdmeditating.png

http://69.90.210.150/themes/gespaa_customized/dev_masthead.png

In that last image, they even have a specification
list pointing to the gas plume. :-)

Regarding SlimServer/Squeezebox support, I tried
the program out briefly yesterday and apart from a
link to Slim's website, I didn't see anything
specific.

Mind you, the program doesn't do anything I can't
already do. Although it looks very slick already,
I uninstalled it.

I like the fact that it's open-source, based on
Firefox, and free. I'll keep an eye on it and
when it can do something
SlimServer/foobar2000/Firefox can't, I'll install
it again.

Has anyone tried this yet with their Squeezebox.
Seems like you can
 control your Squeezebox with it.

I haven't been able to get this site to load this
morning. Mostly server resets, although I once
got a MySQL error.

Is it a problem on my end or are you guys also
having problems?

I wanted to find out if/how much they were
charging for the software.

I'm getting simple connection timeouts. Most likely just load from the
hordes wanting to download the app. (There's a highly ranked mention on
Digg).

Yes, they've been Dugg (or Slashdugg, your preference).

There's a bunch of discussion, and also links to some mirrors of the
installer, at the Digg page.

http://digg.com/music/Songbird_Proof-of-Concept_released_(finally)

BTW, this is the v0.1.0 release, and all proper disclaimers and
expectation controls were apparently exercised. There's even a fat,
black, little cartoon bird mascot depicted in post-nosedive splat
posture. And yet, predictably, there are many comments about the current
state of quality.
