Re: [slim] Squeezebox shuts down on reboot

Hi,

Thanks again for your help, but restarting Slimserver from the server
doesn't solve the problem.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox shuts down on reboot

2007-04-29 Thread kdf

Why does Squeezebox shut down every time I reboot?

The Squeezebox is a dumb client. Everything, right down to each letter
of text is sent from the server. Reboot the PC, shuts off the
slimserver application so the squeezebox goes blank.

It's a problem for me because the box is located about 150 feet from my
pc. I've got to get up, walk to the Squeezebox and restart it with the
 remote.

When slimserver starts back up, the squeezebox should reconnect. I
tend to restart the server many times in an evening and no other
interaction is required for the squeezebox to start back up. Some
users have reported having a problem with this, and the issue is being
investigated:

Thanks for the response.

Unfortunately, I guess I'm one of those users whose system does not
reconnect when I reboot.

that's strange, they always wake and say trying to connect if the
slimserver is down and I press the remote power buttons. I never have
to power cycle squeezeboxes when the server goes away.

What slimserver version are you using?

How is the PC connected to the network?

How is the squeezebox connected?

Re: [slim] Squeezebox shuts down on reboot

I'm using 6.5.1

I'm on a desktop that sends a hard wired signal from my DSL wired
router to a repeater in another room. The repeater sends a wireless
signal to the Squeezebox.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the input.

That helps, is the repeater (Access Point?) doing DHCP/NAT?

That would be consistent with the bug that many people have reported.
Since the Squeezebox display goes blank when not connected to a server,
and usually remains blank with this bug, then it may just _appear_ to be
completely off when it is in fact fumbling around in the dark trying to
the reconnect to the server. Repowering with the remote is a
workaround that works for many people.

I'm not trying to suggest that the workaround is at all convenient, but
until the bug is fixed there's not much choice.

Ahh, you might be having a NAT timeout problems.. the wifi device the
squeezebox is talking to could be getting confused. It might help if
it were possible to disable DHCP/NAT and run the device in a bridge
only mode. I guess I'd have to know exactly what devices you have, and
exactly what ports are pluged into what.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox shuts down on reboot

Hi SuperQ,

It's a Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL router.

The items attached to it include the DSL box, a print server and a
connection to the cat5 line that feeds the remote repeater.

Thanks for your help,

Fred

By the way, I didn't have this problem until I installed Slimserver

Yep.

Another workaround that may work for you is to restart SlimServer
itself on the server. Could keep you from having to get out the remote
and walking 150 feet to the SB. This used to work for me, but it would
sometimes take two, three, four tries. Wait at least 20-30 seconds
between retries and watch for the Squeezebox to show up in the web
interface.
