My specific issues at the time weren't really the point. Anyway FWIW, changing my Slimp3 config from a manually selected Squeezebox server to a full automatically selected server + DHCP fixed the drop out issue. Re: [slim] Your members are VERY positive but...
The LAME quality level only comes into play if you are playing non-MP3 files and have bit rate limiting set to something other than "No Limit". If your files are MP3 in the first place, LAME is not involved. If you are getting interruptions (dropouts, rebuffering, sync failures) in playback on a WIRED network, the two most likely causes are: 1)something attached to the network is using too much bandwidth or is faulty or is incorrectly configured (IP settings) 2)the server machine is being distracted from its task by some other process on the same machine. The way I would try and diagnose this is: 1) Check that the MAC address of all of your players actually matches the label stuck to them - if not, correct that 2) physically disconnect everything from your router except 1 player and the machine running SBS - see if problem goes away. 3) If one player is OK, gradually reconnect players and test each time that the player can be added to the sync group and sync playback is OK 4) if you have problems with only 1 player on the network, the focus should turn to the server machine - some logging will be required at this point -- Phil Leigh You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal... I think it is a command line only option when running slimserver.pl so check whatever scripts is used to launch to start SBS or possibly look at output of a ps command - something like ps -af | grep slimserver Have you tried enabling the sync logging options - this can gives info about adjustments to the sync settings which improve syncing. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82355 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

If I would have bought my first Squeezebox today I'm not sure I would have been as happy as I currently am. The reason I'm happy is because I got my first Squeezebox over 4 years ago when Slim Devices was controlling its success. It was rock solid, it had great audio quality and it just worked. Sure, people also had network problems back then but as long as you had a stable network and a stable server it really just worked. Sonos is a small company focused at making their products the best music players out there, they obviously know that people want things that just works. I wish I could say the same about Logitech but honestly I can't at the moment, they really doesn't put enough focus on getting their Squeezebox products reach their full potential. The Squeezebox products definitely have the potential to be number one, but it requires some effort by Logitech to get there.
