It just refers to 54 (legacy), which I assume refers to B devices, 154 (neighbor friendly, and 300, maximum N. I use 154 as I have all G or N devices and no B devices. -- garym System 1: Vortexbox Appliance (1.10) > SbS 7.6.2 > Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio) System 2: Win7(64) laptop > SbS 7.6.2 > Touch>Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio and laptop) Retired: SB3, Duet Receiver Controlled at both locations with: iPhone (iPeng), iPad (iPengHD & SqueezePad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.6 on Win7(64) laptop Ripping (FLAC) - dbpoweramp, Additional Tagging - mp3tag garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=90640 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] wireless vodoo
There should be some kind of setting that lets you pick between - B&G (default) - B only - G only Usually this is under 'setup' or 'wireless setup' somewhere. That said, I'm not sure this makes much difference when there isn't a B device. I -would- switch to channel 1 (the lower the frequency, the better a signal passes through solid objects). It's not much a frequency difference, so not much change, but it's free and easy. If your router has removable antennas, get a replacement with as low a dB rating as you can find (change the cylinder back to a sphere). You might also do fine with a repeater. Cheapest way to get one is to buy a dd-wrt capable router, but this requires some technical know-how (or a friend with same). -- bobkoure bobkoure's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14646 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=90640 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

If you do decide to go with powerline adapters, I just installed 2 pair of these from Monoprice and they have been working great. Re: [slim] wireless vodoo
I have been giving this some thought and have another possible solution. I have 1 Touch on the 1st floor my PC is on the 2nd floor connected wirelessly w a mediocre signal and I want an additional Touch in the basement. Running ethernet wiring is probably not an option. Earlier I spoke of getting powerline adapters to get a signal to the basement. My thought today is to use an Atom based netbook to run my 1 TB HDD and connect it to the 1st floor Touch and then move the netbook and HDD to the basement and connect to a 2nd Touch when desired. Is this logical, am I looking at significant lagtime when making the move and reconnecting given that neither Touch would then have internet access. My thought process is that it would provide more flexibility and hopefully more certainty of things operating satisfactorily. More money but might be well worth it ? -- dasmueller dasmueller's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38035 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=90640 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

dasmueller;660330 Wrote: > ...Netgear WNR2000v2...2nd floor > ...Touch on the 1st floor If you have a vertically polarized dipole antenna, then any antenna gain comes from reducing vertical spread for horizontal. For example, a single-pint (theoretical) antenna would broadcast a perfect sphere. Typically there's some gain, and the more there is, the more the top and bottom of that sphere are shaved off and the sphere starts to look like a cylinder. So, yeah, tilting your antenna on it's side will change where that cylinder goes. Sadly, you also change polarization a bit (things work best when the antennas are polarized the same). You can also put a reflector on the antenna (plenty of info online) or, if your router has removable antenna(s) you can get an aim-able antenna (panel/plate or parabolic - or even yagi, but I haven't seen an indoor one) and just, well, -aim- it at your target. Sounds like it's working, though, so why change things? 100 years old, eh? I guess you could pull ethernet cables through your voice-powered speaker-tube intercom system, or are you still using those? :) -- bobkoure bobkoure's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14646 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=90640 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] wireless vodoo
Powerline adapters can be sensitive to the condition and topology of your house's electrical wiring. Buy them from someplace that accepts returns, they don't always work successfully. As alternatives, you could also try using a range extender (Wifi repeater) or running a network cable between floors to set up an access point. Place your transmitter in such a way that you minimize the number of walls or solid things the signal needs to pass through. Signals often pass though floors better than walls. -- Goodsounds Goodsounds's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14201 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=90640 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
