Re: [slim] Special Characters like #345; and á

 Then I reinstalled 7.0.1, did a complete rescan, looked for a song with
 Ü, tried if it plays, it didn´t. Then I started iTunes from my
 windows-machine and converted this song to mp3 (accessed the usb-disk
 connected to my ubunutu-machine via samba). The mp3 file is ok, but

Let me recapitulate this... you have an external USB disk (fat32?) connected to
your linux box, shared using Samba, sharing the iTunes.xml file? There are
things we shouldn't allow :-).

 also all other files are now playing! Please don´t ask me why, I have
 changed nothing else.

You mean even the lossless m4a files would now play with iTunes integration?

 Now the following error messages appear in the server.log:

 2008-04-15 21:41:42 squeezecenter_safe started.
 [08-04-15 21:42:10.2727] Slim::Utils::PluginManager::enablePlugins

 [08-04-15 21:42:13.6543] Slim::Networking::mDNS::startAdvertising (110)
 Error: Couldn't find mDNSResponderPosix binary! Aborting!

That's all unrelated, don't worry.

 [08-04-15 22:05:11.8546]
 Slim::Player::TranscodingHelper::getConvertCommand (297) Error: Didn't
 find any command matches for type: mov format: mp3

Does playing m4a work at all? This is telling us that it tried to transcode
from mov (m4a) to mp3 (why not flac? Are you using bitrate limiting?). Is this
transcoding enabled in the server settings?

 [08-04-15 22:05:11.8548] Slim::Player::Source::openSong (1938) This is
 an mov file:

No non-latin character in here. I'm confused: this thread was about issues with
non-latin and special characters in file names. But you can't even play plane
files?

Yes! Even files with Ü, Ä etc.

AAC files do not work (Apple lossless do). No FLAC because I use my
Ipod as musicserver in my car. No bitrate limiting. I can´t enable

Special Characters like #345; and

I have the following file in a folder

02 - Dvo#345;ák - Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, Op. 95 'From the New
World', II. Largo.mp3

The slimserver scanner does not seem to pick up files like this with
strange characters in. Is there any fix for this, other than manually
renaming my files?

I'm using integration with iTunes btw.

Re: Special Characters like #345; and

This is a know bug and is being worked on. Expect to see some
improvement in SqueezeCenter 7 when it is released.

In the mean time, yes, renaming your files is really the only fix. But
you don't need to do it manually. If you are running Slimserver under
windows, I wrote a little utility program that will rename all your
files in one shot, stripping out any characters with diacritic marks.
You can then re-run the utility at a later time to restore the
filenames to their original state.

Let me know if you are interested.
