[discuss] Student seeks participants for thesis survey about Open Source

2006-10-28 Thread Florian Effenberger

Hello,

I have received a request from a student, who seeks for participants in
his thesis survey about Open Source:

Dear members of OpenOffice.org,

my name is Tobias Brenner and at the moment I'm writing my
dissertation at the Institute of Sociology at the University of
Munich. The topic of the dissertation is Open Source Software and I
decided to choose OpenOffice.org for my examination. But I can only
do this with your help. You would do me a great favour, if you could
fill out this short questionary for me. This will take you only a few
minutes. Link: http://www.open-source-survey.com/Umfrage/index.html

I wanted to pass this on to you and would be happy if we could find some
participants here. :-)

Thanks!
Florian

The survey is confused. It mixes OO with FOSS indiscriminately and has
missing response possibilities.

I agree with Will the survey is muddled and the questionairre shows
limited understanding of Open Source and OpenOffice.org in general.
This shows that his prior research could have been better. I would mail
Tobias but I have no address

I have emailed Tobias suggesting more research and/or his subscribing to
the list so that he can seek further comment. I have given him links to
the archive of the original message.

Some of the questions are pretty vague and it is hard to know how to
interpret them. e.g. the patent question

The survey's an interesting first draft, though.
