Re: [discuss] Re: OO.o1.9.91 window docking issue?

2005-04-15 Thread Stephan Schaefer
Hi all,
To enable docking by mouse via dragging, it is required that your
windows show their contents while moving and not only a wireframe.
Otherwise OOo does not receive any events from the system until you
release the mouse which is too late.

On XP go to ControlPanel->Display->Appearance->Effects... and make sure
that 'Show window contents while dragging' is enabled. On some systems
this might also be called 'full drag' or something like this.

This only affects navigator and stylist, the toolbars are already in
full drag mode all the time. The remaining windows will be changed like
this for the next major version.

Thanks for the headsup khirano and I did a quick bit of reading on that
issue. I have also attempted the CTRL + DoubleClick on the stylist and
there is some action. However that action docks the window to the left
and guess where I wanted to dock my windowthe right.

But for the life of me; in WindowsXP, I cannot drag a window using the
mouse to automatically dock on either side.

Hi Jamie,
I'm unable to reproduce the problem in WinXP SP2. It's a bit touchy,
but I can consistently dock the Stylist to the left OR right.
I say 'touchy' because sometimes I grab the Stylist window and drag it
over the left or right side of the OOo window (whether full screen or
not) and I have to move it around the side a few times until eventually
it brings up a dashed rectangle indicating that it's ready to dock.
Other times it docks on the first try.
Sometimes it requires that I drag as much as half the Stylist window off
the OOo window (or screen when OOo is maximized). Not exactly ideal.
Perhaps this can be improved by the official 2.0 release, but in the
meantime I hope that helps.

Same here, Jamie & Trevor. WinXP Pro/SP2, OOo 1.9.91
Double-clicking puts both those toolbars on the left, but, with a little
trial, I could drag and dock them on the right, too. I hadn't given
this any thought when I first fired up OOo1.9.91, because I like the
Stylist on the left, and got it there right away. I rarely use the
Navigator, anyway, so it didn't matter. Two toolbars of that size take
up too much of my writing space. :)

In fact the indicator is the cursor. If you click-hold and drag, the
Docking indicator box appears when the cursor is over the window edge.
So if you click-hold on the left hand corner and drag to dock on the
right side of your window, the stylist window will almost completely
disappear off the window before it will dock. :) The cursor is the
critical indicator. It doesn't matter where the stylist floating window is.

I think I know what's going on here. The developers may have used aboslute
co-ordinates versus relative co-ordinates on the gui grid. Perhaps changing it
to relative addressing using a variable fix to the windowclass(object) could
fix this problem?

Hi,
Just fired up writer and tried what you suggest... no key pressing while
dragging the window to the corner.

No go. WinXP only issue?

Anyone else having this problem? The help doesn't mention how to
activate docking other than double clicking. which doesn't work
for me either.

same problem over here...

I'm not sure if the behaviour is the same in Windows but in 1.9.91 on
SuSE you don't have to hold any keys. Just click hold and drag to
whichever side. In fact if you hold any keys down it won't dock.

That's been my experience. Anyone else?
