I haven't really been following this thread of thought much, but doing that 
stuff in the Java imaging API's is a breeze. I've got plenty of code that I 
could share with doing various line and pie charts if someone wanted it.

Interesting! From what
 I can read, it seems indeed that ImageMagick
 (and Alagad Image Component) can take a bunch
 of plotpoints and project it on an image.
 A total hack would be to run the applet on
 the server, produce a pdf and use cfprint
 to convert the pdf to a jpg.

Sounds like a fun
 project though...
