Comment:

 I agree with Keryn that catching the `NotRegistered` or
 `AlreadyRegistered` exceptions seem like the best approach here. Please
 feel free to reopen if you have a use case where catching those exceptions
 wouldn't help.

 Are you able to provide a concrete example of how this would be
 beneficial, or fix problems you're running into that aren't solved by
 catching AlreadyRegistered/NotRegistered and taking the appropriate
 action; eg:
 {{{
 try:
 admin.site.unregister(MyModel)
 # [...]
 except NotRegistered:
 pass
 # Or do some other things, and then register a new ModelAdmin
 admin.site.register(MyModel, MyAdmin)
 }}}
