Using Google App engine helper with Django and getting a templat not found error

2008-06-27 Thread Chuck

I have created the polls application verbatum from the tutorial with
the exception that I am using the helper code to run the app on
Google. The app works just fine on the SDK but whenever I upoade the
app to Google I get the following error:

Template does not exist at \
index.html

Template-loader postmortem
Django tried loading these templates, in this order:

Using loader django.template.loaders.filesystem.load_template_source:
/base/data/home/apps/myapp/1.41/templates/index.html (File does not
exist)
/templates/index.html (File does not exist)
Using loader
django.template.loaders.app_directories.load_template_source:

My dirs in settings.py is set up as follows:

ROOT_PATH = os.path.dirname(__file__)

TEMPLATE_DIRS = (
# Put strings here, like "/home/html/django_templates" or "C:/
www/
#django/templates".
# Always use forward slashes, even on Windows.
# Don't forget to use absolute paths, not relative paths.
ROOT_PATH + "/templates",
'/templates',
)

I have looked everywhere and do not know what to do.

Is there something in the helper that could be causing this? Any
other ideas?

Please help

Chuck

Help Requested: Getting Started with Django

2010-05-09 Thread Chuck
Hi all,

I've read through the Django tutorial and it makes a lot of sense to
me. Does anyone have the full version of the poll application
available for download? I think it would be a good reference for me as
I develop my own site.

Thank you,
Chuck

unable to resolve URL in template

2008-09-27 Thread Chuck Bai

In my url.py, I define the root my site is like this:
urlpatterns = patterns('',
url(r'^$', 'views.index', name="index"),
...)

in my template, I have a link defined as follows:
Home

I got this error:

  TemplateSyntaxError at /

Home

Caught an exception while rendering: Reverse for 'testproject.index' with
arguments '()' and keyword arguments '{}' not found.

It seems that Django can not resolve the URL index. Can anyone point to
me what is wrong and how to fix it?

change i18n language through hyperlinks

I want to allow user select language preference through clicking the
language hyperlinks like "_English_ | _French_" switch. And I also want
to redirect back to the previous page after clicking the language
switch. Is it possible to use Django view:
django.views.i18n.set_language? In the documentation, there is an

{% for lang in LANGUAGES %}
{{ lang.1 }}
{% endfor %}

But I want to implement this using hyperlinks and want to know how.

makemessages create invalid msgid in django.po file

2008-10-12 Thread Chuck Bai2

The base language of my site is Chinese. I want to change to English
when user select language perferrence.

In my base.html, I have
{% trans "产品" %}

I generated django.po file using
django-admin.py makemessages -l en

In django.po file of en locale,
#: .\templates\base.html.py:36
msgid "å…¬å ¸äº§å“ "
msgstr "Products"

As you can see, the generated msgid is scrambled and invalid. This
caused translation failed. If I manually changed the msgid to be
msgid "产品"
msgstr "Products"

The translation works. I verified that my base.html is utf-8 encoded.
Anyone know what is the reason for the scrambled msgid in django.po
file? I suspect this is an encoding issue on makemessages command, but
don't know how to resolve this.

render_to_response failed to render media files in base.html

2008-10-19 Thread Chuck Bai2

Here is my view code:

def contact(request):
form = ContactForm() # An unbound form
return render_to_response('contact.html', {
'form': form,
})

My contact form page rendered but without all the media files(CSS files,
Javascripts files, images). The text part of the page is OK and I can
see my contact form displayed OK.

If I left the form out, just render the page using direct_to_template
like below, the page is working fine. All the media files are rendered.

def contact(request):
return direct_to_template(request, template='contact.html')

My contact.html extends base.html and all the media file references are
in the base.html. It seems render_to_response failed to render media
files while direct_to_template delivered successfully. I am using
development trunk (revision 9236). Anyone knows why?

Overriding ModelForm field's value in the admin changeview

2010-07-14 Thread Chuck Harmston
Does anyone know where in the admin changeview the fields in a ModelForm is
populated with the information from the database? I was hoping to override
one of the fields in a subclassed ModelForm.__init__(), e.g.:

self.base_fields[field_name].initial = 'foo'

But the population appears to be happening farther down the chain, as 'foo'
is overwritten with the value from the database.

Thanks!

Django-MongoDb deployment at production servert

2012-12-10 Thread Chuck James
Hi,

I am developing a website using Django and MongoDb
(http://django-mongodb.org/). I have read lots of forums and posts but
still not able to figure it out what is the best way or default way to
deploy Django project on web. So I have couple of questions related to
this, it will be great if some one can guide me.

> Do I need a dedicated servers to implement Django with MongoDb if yes
then what is the min/max requirement for them. What all controls and
permissions I need for those servers.
> What is the default way to deploy it (Django project with MongoDb), what
is the best way to deploy it.
> Can we deploy it without using apache or nginx. Like some kind of server
in python best to deploy Django project and I don't need to install any
other web server for it.

Thanks in advance :)

Re: Django-MongoDb deployment at production servert

2012-12-11 Thread Chuck James
Thanks for the reply guys :).

The reason, I am mentioning the DB here, is that MongoDb is not a
relational database, so when one will tell me the Django deployment, he
should keep non relational database in mind.

Other point, deployment without any common web server (apache/nginx)
because python it-self a nice language, then why should we convert our
project, so that apache/nginx will understand our code. There should be
some good webserver in python. This will reduce the overhead on web server,
I guess.

The default way and the best way to deploy it means:
Best way: What is the deployment process for the other best sites
(firefox/pininterest/...), how are they deploying it.
Default way: The easiest way for easiest configuration setting/ lease
server end changes. And most people use it to deploy.

Looking forward for your replies :).

Re: Django-MongoDb deployment at production servert

2012-12-11 Thread Chuck James
Really in-depth reply with fair option :) thanks, Seems, I should take a
dedicated web server and then start implementing it with Gunicorn (will try
first, then I may move to apache). Now I need to read how to deploy django
with Gunicorn/apache.

Thanks.

Anonymous Session?

2005-07-31 Thread Chuck Thier

Since there has been no docs on sessions yet, I have been looking
through the code to figure out how to use anonymous sessions. The
only problem is that it looks like it sets the session object in the
response to None if it is an anonymous user, and I'm not sure what to
do at that point. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi Kum,

I think Melvyn's suggestion is a good one. Is there any reason you
couldn't do:

import DEBUG from yourapp.settings

And then check against that for your testing?

Re: Different models in child and Parent Templates

2017-05-02 Thread chuck . horowitz
So what would you like the ContactView to populate *into *the nav bar?
 Without a data model, there is nothing to render.

Remember that {% include 'blog/navbar.html' %} will not access/render that
"url", it will simply paste in the contents of that file(template) into the
template before rendering (i.e. expanding tags), so the tags in that file
will be expanded based on whatever Context dict is passed to the method
which is rendering it.

But I may not be understanding the problem clearly.

This should work for you. You were using the wrong port.The port you were using
