Use Subversion to Download the Latest Django Version

2009-11-17 Thread Mikey3D
I just got new computer Win7 64-bit and I downloaded:

64 Bit TortoiseSVN-1.6.6.17493-x64-svn-1.6.6.msi

After finished download >Restart >Start >Run >cmd

--
C:\Users\Mike>svn co http://code.djangoproject.com/svn/django/trunk/
'svn' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable
program or batch file.

C:\Users\Mike>
--

What should I do?

Thanks, Mikey3D

I can't find it. I have Windows 7 64-bit and what you have said is
completely difference all together.

Last year, my 11 years old computer can do: run >command. I haven't

Tony, I right-clicked on desktop wallpaper and see SVN Checkout >URL
of repository >http://code.djangoproject.com/svn/django/trunk/ >OK

It download 10,83M Bytes Django of 13 files in 2 minutes and 19
seconds.

Angel, I installed 64-bit Subversion from http://tortoisesvn.net/downloads

Is that wrong Subversion but Tony explained that works. Do I still
need cygwin?

Command (Windows+R >cmd) Python

2009-11-20 Thread Mikey3D
I have new Windows 7 64-bit instead the old Windows 98. I'm going
through setup before starting Django project.

I downloaded Windows x86 MSI Installer (2.6.4) - http://www.python.org/download/
and I clicked Start >All Program >Python 2.6 >IDLE (Python GUI)

I get:
-
Python 2.6.4 (r264:75708, Oct 26 2009, 08:23:19) [MSC v.1500 32 bit
(Intel)] on win32
Type "copyright", "credits" or "license()" for more information.

Personal firewall software may warn about the connection IDLE
makes to its subprocess using this computer's internal loopback
interface. This connection is not visible on any external
interface and no data is sent to or received from the Internet.

IDLE 2.6.4
>>>
-

So far, good but the problem is when I go to Windows+R >cmd >OK

-
C:\Users\Mike>python
'python' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

C:\Users\Mike>
-

I don't know why it didn't work.

Thanks, Mikey3D

Re: Django Book: The Django Administration Site

2008-01-06 Thread Mikey3D

Hi goober,

I have done your suggestions before or I won't be able to create a
superuser, right? I could login and there is no Ch6 but only Auth and
Sites in Admin Interface. So I try again your suggestions:

In command:

python manage.py sql books "OR" python manage.py sqlall books > the
same difference.

Then python manage.py syncdb

Then python manage.py runserver

There is no Ch6.

Thanks, Mikey3D

Re: Django Book: The Django Administration Site

2008-01-06 Thread Mikey3D

Hi Elgringo,

Thank you so much it works. :-) One question, why is that I have Auth
and Sites are showing up when my "class Admin: pass" were wrong way of
coding still works?

Hi Ramiro, I wasn't sure what you mean by copy/paste error and inner
class but Elgringo clearly what you were saying. Thank you. You know I
can't copy/paste the text from new django book. I look over again on
page 84 it was my mistakes. I using ActiveState Python IDE editor when
I press enter twice it was way off.

Cheer, Mikey3D

Chapter 7: Form Processing

2008-01-16 Thread Mikey3D

I have an error:

Exception Type: ImproperlyConfigured at /search/
Exception Value: Error while importing URLconf 'mysite.urls': 'tuple'
object is not callable

Here're the files:

Module: mysite.books.views
---

from django.db.models import Q
from django.shortcuts import render_to_response
from mysite.books.models import Book

def search(request):
query = request.GET.get('q', '')
if query:
qset = (
Q(title__icontains=query) |
Q(authors__first_name__icontains=query) |
Q(authors__last_name__icontains=query)
)
results = Book.objects.filter(qset).distinct()
else:
results = []
return render_to_response("books/search.html", {
"results": results,
"query": query
})

Module: mysite.url
-

from django.conf.urls.defaults import *
from mysite.views import current_datetime, hours_ahead

urlpatterns = patterns('',
(r'^time/$', current_datetime),
(r'^time/plus/(\d{1,2})/$', hours_ahead),
(r'^search/$', 'mysite.books.views.search')

# Uncomment this for admin:
 (r'^admin/', include('django.contrib.admin.urls')),
)

What's the solution?

Thanks, Mikey3D

Re: Chapter 7: Form Processing

2008-01-16 Thread Mikey3D

FrankW, I have tried remove the quotes but it didn't work.

Rajesh Dhawan, I have just add comma, it works. Thanks Rajesh but I
get an error:

-
Exception Type: TemplateDoesNotExist at /search/
Exception Value: books/search.html

Windows, I have put search.html file in:

C:\djcode\mysite\books\templates\admin
C:\djcode\mysite\books\templates
C:\djcode\mysite\books

None of them are working. Where should I put search.html file in?

Thanks, Mikey3D

Re: Chapter 7: Form Processing

2008-01-16 Thread Mikey3D

Hi Rajesh,

The book chapter 7 doesn't say new sub-dir called books in your
application's templates directory. For the beginners who are reading
the Django book will get confusing.

http://www.djangobook.com/en/1.0/chapter07/

Thank for the loading templates link, I have done chapter 4 with no
problem. :-)

Rajesh, you are very helpful. Thank you!

Cheers, Mikey3D
