On average, I get three or four emails bounced back at me every week
from people signing up for djangosnippets.org. Their ISPs don't filter
into a spam folder -- they just bounce it back saying "I won't accept
this".

You don't have to change anything. I just wanted to say that I don't
like the design. The site is great though.

Re: Introducing DjangoSites.Org

2007-06-24 Thread wathi

Hi Kai,

thank you for the screenshot. My resolution is 1024x768, too and it
looks the same as on your screenshot.

i first thought you meant the design is broken and some text being out
of bounds. i guess Christian expected the same and he suggested to
make the design all fluid and this is what i did and i was just going
to send a new style.css to ross. but i see that is not the point and
not necessary.

font-sizes are already relative and i am not going to change anything
for now. as this is not a django related problem or a feature request
for djangosites.org and no one else has complained about this i would
set up a test page with a small change and invite you to have a look
there rather than discussing it here.

if anyone else has questions/suggestions about the design, feel free
to contact me directly.

As you'd noticed, I've verified your account. According to the mail
logs the mail was sent OK - did it get cought by your spam filtering

The templates for the signup/login forms have been updated and the
error messages are now more obvious.

I've just manually updated the account to make it active, you should
be able to login. Unfortunately my mail logs show the email being sent
to you, so I'm at a loss as to what's happened to it. It hasn't landed
in your spam box or similar has it?

The 'Latest Sites' will let you paginate thorugh all sites, when I get
home I'll see if we can put together a page perhaps in alphabetical
order, with more sites displayed per page, to try and make it more
obvious as to where you should look.

For 'Search' I'm looking at a few options and should be able to add
something to the site within a few days.

There is a 'Source Code URL' field available which lets site owners
paste a URL to the source code for their site, if it's available.
We'll be adding an icon to the listings shortly to signify which sites
have source code available and linked from the site.

We've got a new stylesheet in testing now which is more fluid and
hopefully renders better on your machine. Hopefully it's ready to go
by tonight (Melbourne, AU - GMT+10) and I'll post here when it's live.
Thanks for the feedback, it's certainly appreciated by us.

All, thanks for the fantastic feedback. As a whole the site seems to
have been very well received, and the number of submissions has been
great. Without your submissions the site is worthless - so thank you
for helping make it a useful resource for the Django community.

Please don't think.."hey, he doesn't like big fonts. So he likes small fonts."
I hate this. I didn't say that.

You completely missed my thought. I hate small fonts, and I agree
with you. I wear glasses since I'm using computer at work regularly. So I'm
happy when I don't have to increase the font size and when the author
of the website doesn't want to exclude people who can look w/o glasses.
But on my screen the site is really very ugly because of the fonts.
I know the hotkey, the default here is very ok. Thank you so much.
In the last time I'm using a new laptop where the resolution is very
low (I think it's 1024x768). Maybe this is the reason why it looks so
big on my screen, which is 15''. I'm gonna check this tommorrow with

Sorry, I have to disagree here. I'm not sure when the "small fonts = beautiful"
trend started, but these days, everyone seems to be competing with CNN on this
front, and I think it's a bad move. If you don't like your browser's defaults,

Re: Introducing DjangoSites.Org

2007-06-23 Thread Carl Karsten

I just hit it - looks nice - I like the tag cloud.

I have been meaning to hit it ever sense I saw your post, but today I had a
need
and was hoping DjangoSites.Org would help. what follows is not related to
content, I realize it is new and will improve over time.

As a 'visitor' I get the feeling that I need to create an account to get full
access to just browsing. or, maybe what I am looking for isn't here. (I
havn't
signed up)

There should be a "list all sites" (pages of 30 or so at a time) and a "Search."

For instance, right now I am looking for an event calender and a message board.
(I'll start a separate thread for my quest - keep this to ds.org comments.) So
I hit the site, and about all I can do is look at the tags. I am guessing that
the lack of "calender" and "forum/message/blah" tags means I am out of luck for
now, but A) im not 100% sure of this and B) what if someone was looking for
something more obscure that wasn't a likely tag?

and given that I am looking for code to use, it might be worth a dedicated
field
(as opposed to a tag) listing the availability of the code. I am guessing
ds.org was meant as a marketing tool for django, but it seems it could easily
be
a developers resource as well.

It would be great if there was some sort of "Thanks for the
submission! We will post your site after it is reviewed.." notice
after submitting each site. Right now it just dumps you back in the
homepage w/ no feedback as to whether the site submission was received
or not.

Otherwise, looks great so far! Thanks for putting this up..

And fwiw, my account confirmation email came immediately and the
account worked fine.

A few minor things:
One the register page, since the "Terms of Service" link is in the label
for the checkbox, when I clicked it to read the TOS it checked the box
before going to the page.

In the 2 item on the TOS page, it says "We're aiming for an audience of

Hi! Site looks great.

A few things:

* It'd be nice if the RSS feed included the site description, not just the URL.
That way, I can tell whether I want to check out the new site or not without
having to go there first.

* It may be a good idea to have a more prominent link to the feed in the page
itself. I guess most people who use RSS know to look at the URL bar in
firefox. Do all browsers provide access to feeds like that?
