There are some alternatives that I can think of.
Libreoffice online: https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-online/
Etherpad is a web editor that has a plugin for import docx documents
https://etherpad.org/
https://www.npmjs.com/package/ep_mammoth - (plugin)
If you can use php:
https://github.com/PHPOffice
If you can use odf instead of doc:
https://webodf.org/
This is just my 2 cents, and I have never used these before.
