 Hello everyone, I just finished my first tutorial django project, but now,
when I'm trying to create a new project it keeps redirecting form home page
with blank url ' ' to non-existent app url 'catalog/'. I deleted all files
from previous project, I tried overriding path with RedirectView to a new
app view, I changed my python virtual environment but to no avail. It keeps
asking for a URL that is not defined in any way. How do I fix it?

I'd like to give some advice before start your Django journey and Django
project configurations
-- Before Start Django --
1. master Python "class" bacause you might use django class-based view a
lot, learn "decorator" and standard library "datetime" and "re"
2. choose "Python version" for your django project, I recommend Python 3.10
or 3.11. You should check current installed Python version
in your terminal --> py --version
** if you use Unix OS like MacOS or Linux, type "python3" instead of "py"
3. I highly recommend create virtual environment for each django project,
install virtualenv with pip
windows cmd --> py -m pip install virtualenv
then --> py -m virtualenv app-env
macos terminal --> python3 -m pip install virtualenv
then --> python3 -m virtualenv app-env
4. activate virtual environment you just created
windows cmd --> app-env\Scripts\activate.bat   or
 app-env\Scripts\activate
macos terminal --> source/bin/activate
to stop virtualenv just type --> deactivate
5. install django latest version via pip (you must activate virtualenv
first)
--> py -m pip install django
-- Start Django --
1. start new django project (don't forget to activate virtualenv first)
--> django-admin startproject my-app
2. go inside project folder and create "requirements.txt" and type all
requirement library for your project
   --- requirements.txt ---
django >= 4.2.0, < 4.3.0
wheel >= 0.4.0
ipython >= 8.11.0 # python shell for django project
python-decouple >= 3.7.0# for hiding sensitive data in settings.py
before uploading to git
setuptools >= 67.7.0
psycopg >= 3.0.0 # postgresql database driver. if you
use django 4.1 or lower you must install psycopg2 instead of psycopg
 mysqlclient => 2.1.1# mysql database driver. if you
already use postgresql you don't need this
3. install specified dependencies
--> py -m pip install -r requirements.txt
for upgrade your dependencies --> py -m pip install --upgrade -r

for example if you specified "django >= 4.2.0, < 4.3.0" it will upgrade

4. in your main project directory it will have 3 files now
my-app,  manage.py  and  requirements.txt
5. open "settings.py" in "my-app"
first thing you need to be cautious is SECRET_KEY constant. You must

Re: Finding Help in getting started in Django

2023-05-31 Thread DieHardMan 300
I'd like to give some advice before start your Django journey and Django
project configurations
-- Before Start Django --
1. master Python "class" bacause you might use django class-based view a
lot, learn "decorator" and standard library "datetime" and "re"
2. choose "Python version" for your django project, I recommend Python 3.10
or 3.11. You should check current installed Python version
in your terminal --> py --version
** if you use Unix OS like MacOS or Linux, type "python3" instead of "py"
3. I highly recommend create virtual environment for each django project,
install virtualenv with pip
windows cmd --> py -m pip install virtualenv
then --> py -m virtualenv app-env
macos terminal --> python3 -m pip install virtualenv
then --> python3 -m virtualenv app-env
4. activate virtual environment you just created
windows cmd --> app-env\Scripts\activate.bat   or
 app-env\Scripts\activate
macos terminal --> source/bin/activate
to stop virtualenv just type --> deactivate
5. install django latest version via pip (you must activate virtualenv
first)
--> py -m pip install django
-- Start Django --
1. start new django project (don't forget to activate virtualenv first)
--> django-admin startproject my-app
2. go inside project folder and create "requirements.txt" and type all
requirement library for your project
   --- requirements.txt ---
django >= 4.2.0, < 4.3.0
wheel >= 0.4.0
ipython >= 8.11.0 # python shell for django project
python-decouple >= 3.7.0# for hiding sensitive data in settings.py
before uploading to git
setuptools >= 67.7.0
psycopg >= 3.0.0 # postgresql database driver. if you
use django 4.1 or lower you must install psycopg2 instead of psycopg
 mysqlclient => 2.1.1# mysql database driver. if you
already use postgresql you don't need this
3. install specified dependencies
--> py -m pip install -r requirements.txt
for upgrade your dependencies --> py -m pip install --upgrade -r
requirements.txt
by doing this you have more control to your project dependencies
for example if you specified "django >= 4.2.0, < 4.3.0" it will upgrade
django between 4.2.0 to 4.2.* but never 4.3.0
4. in your main project directory it will have 3 files now

DATABASE_PASSWORD=''
DATABASE_HOST='localhost'

}
}
--- for mysql ---
DATABASES = {
'default': {
ALLOWED_HOSTS='localhost'
DATABASE_ENGINE='django.db.backends.mysql'
DATABASE_NAME='mydatabase'
DATABASE_USER='root'
DATABASE_PASSWORD=''
DATABASE_HOST='localhost'

}
add your "user" and "password", both database port above are default port

Re: Finding Help in getting started in Django

2023-05-30 Thread psyMaster Code
Congratulations,
You did one of the greatest choice
In the beginning, the documentation of django is awsome and also infinity,

You can go through the 7 first steps of doc, then get start the django rest
framework on

https://www.django-rest-framework.org/

After that you can find out more and more project to try and learn while
you're enjoying.

It is important that during your lessons, you try your ideas too, after a
while just do projects alone.

You can find some UI design or some website and try to make APIs accourding
to the logic that you see

Hope It could help you
Best wishes

Hmm, when I remove the raise CommandError statement and replace it with
self.stdout.write, everything works well.

This helps me to point further studies. Thx!

Ah, yes, thanks.

I hesitate to comment on "If I understood the error right." ;)

Umm, my problem here is that I think I'm using the exact same *code*
"manually" without errors.
I think I'm also using the same *values* for the manual and test runs.
So I don't understand the reason for the differences in output.

testing newbie - help requested: app works, tests give errors

2023-05-10 Thread 'Bob Aalsma' via Django users
I'm trying to test a django-admin command and don't understand why the
tests give errors on the code while the code works as expected.

I'm under the impression that the *raise CommandError* is ignored by the
test, but don't understand why this would be.

Please help.

Running the code shows:

(.venv) werker@Werkers-Mac-mini domain_reader % python3 manage.py
populate_source 0

*CommandError: Alleen hele getallen > 0 toegestaan*

(.venv) werker@Werkers-Mac-mini domain_reader % python3 manage.py
populate_source 1

*Teksten zijn gegenereerd voor tekstlengte 1*

(.venv) werker@Werkers-Mac-mini domain_reader % python3 manage.py
populate_source 1

*CommandError: Teksten voor nummer 1 zijn al eerder gegenereerd*

(.venv) werker@Werkers-Mac-mini domain_reader % python3 manage.py
populate_source 7

*CommandError: Opgegeven sleutel 7 niet gevonden*

Running the tests shows

(.venv) werker@Werkers-Mac-mini domain_reader % python3 manage.py test
tests.test_sources_app_command_populate

Found 3 test(s).

Creating test database for alias 'default'...

System check identified no issues (0 silenced).

Re: Django Themes help

2023-05-02 Thread David Nugent
This is a styling issue (aka CSS). The best answer depends on the CSS
framework (if any) you might be using.

Or you can just apply:

.text-center {
   text-align: center;
}

on the containing div.

Hi William,

I am new to programming myself, but I do know some bit of CSS.

I have forked your repo, I will make some changes and make a pull request.

Keep a lookout.

Since you have bootstrap already, it will be quick

Re: Help on Django + Plotly integration

2023-03-24 Thread Jd Mehra

Create a view that will generate the Plotly chart. In the view, you can use
the Plotly library to create a chart object and return it as an HTML div
string. Here is an example view:

from django.shortcuts import render
import plotly.graph_objs as go
import plotly.offline as opy
from django.http import HttpResponse

def my_chart(request):
trace1 = go.Bar(x=[1, 2, 3], y=[4, 5, 6])
data = [trace1]
layout = go.Layout(title='My Chart')
fig = go.Figure(data=data, layout=layout)
div = opy.plot(fig, auto_open=False, output_type='div')
return HttpResponse(div)

Re: Please i need help in creating a Login page with Django

2023-01-20 Thread Aditi Dwivedi
You have to first create a superuser in your django project.
It is same as creating a root user in Linux or admin user in windows.
Super user can be created as..
1. Run command in django terminal
 Python manage.py createsuperuser

2. It will ask for user name, emai and password.

3. Run command
Python manage.py runserver.

Hope this helps.

Don't understand questions perfect.
But if your question is
you have list and make pdf
Then try to generate new pdf from items
You want the new pdf have only new items ( not include old items in new pdf
) ?

You can add( is_add_to_pdf ) bool field to your items and make it true when
added to pdf
Then when generate other pdf exclude those items

Yeah it's not a DDOS or anything. They are providing the movie information
on their site, from their databases, as-is and without warranty. That means
you can do whatever you want with it to the fullest extent of criminal law.

But maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about.

illegal? Against Copyright, and maybe not permitted by End-User License.

But illegal? You’re not going to go to jail if you scrape IMDB, as an
individual user. If you do it as part of a company, that company will probably
be issued a cease and desist… And if they don’t comply they’ll get IP blocked,

But IMDB can’t do anything to prevent someone from scraping the web site, as a
individual, as long as you don’t draw attention to yourself.

views in my normal frontend views then make new Dashboard menu entry in
settings.py and from my view a button back to dashboard if i am staff
user...

2022-11-21 Thread Sebastian Jung
Here are sanbox project with i have start

https://github.com/django-oscar/django-oscar/tree/master/sandbox

Good luck. On beginning absolut chaos because many things are not so as you
know. For example show in apps.py this is absokut different as i know with
urls.py. Or that models.py connects to Abstract model class and further
more...

But i think that many things are very good for examplke EAV implementation
in productclass where you can dynamicla create new attributes in
products... And much more. Impkementation of own payment method are not so
fine...

Ask when yoz have Detail questions

Change line 37 of your frobnicater.py file from using int to string.

Alternatively, if that doesn't work, consider asking a question that
someone can actually answer.

Re: PLEASE HELP ME KNOW HOW TO ARRANGE INSTALLED APPS.

2022-10-29 Thread Ammar Mohammed
Hello Dear
You should name your apps without the app word in the end
Example :
INSTALLED_APPS = [
"apps.store'',
" apps.core",
]
This will definitely work

Re: PLEASE HELP ME KNOW HOW TO ARRANGE INSTALLED APPS.

2022-10-19 Thread johnpaul mulongo
You need to give the django apps you created unique names (try to see them
as separate entities), in your case this would be 'core' and 'store', then
you need to add them to the INSTALED_APPS list like so in the settings file:
[...,
'core.apps.CoreConfig',
'store.apps.StoreConfig',
]

Re: PLEASE HELP ME KNOW HOW TO ARRANGE INSTALLED APPS.

2022-10-18 Thread regan opere
Many, thanks for the reply. However, I have two apps in the directory
called Apps..
so when I name the apps in the settings using
tiles.apps.TilesConfig' it still does'nt work

  naming them like this:

 'apps.core.apps',

'apps.store.apps',
also still giver the error: django.core.exceptions.ImproperlyConfigured:
Application labels aren't unique, duplicates: apps

however, when I delete one of the apps from the settings, the server runs
without an error

So inthe installed app list it will be

'tiles.apps.TilesConfig',
Or put simply

Hope it helps .

PLEASE HELP ME KNOW HOW TO ARRANGE INSTALLED APPS.

2022-10-17 Thread regan opere
Hello, I am new to django and I am still learning.
I have created two apps core and store and I have registered them in the
settings file of my root directory.
 This is the error I get:
django.core.exceptions.ImproperlyConfigured: Application labels aren't
unique, duplicates: apps

my settings look like this
INSTALLED_APPS = [
'django.contrib.admin',
'django.contrib.auth',
'django.contrib.contenttypes',
'django.contrib.sessions',
'django.contrib.messages',
'django.contrib.staticfiles',

'apps.core.apps',

'apps.store.apps',

and their individual apps.py look like this:

class CoreConfig(AppConfig):
default_auto_field = 'django.db.models.BigAutoField'
name = 'core'

and

class StoreConfig(AppConfig):
default_auto_field = 'django.db.models.BigAutoField'
name = 'store'

without the second app 'store" the server runs just fine

You don’t run model files directly, but rather through manage.py which
references your settings.py file.

./manage.py

Re: help on how to deploy django app on railway "

2022-09-15 Thread Percy Masekwameng
Hi I don't know much about deploying, I'm still a newbie

There is an option to deploy a template, use it to deploy a Django template

So normally I'd deploy a Django template which railway also create a
repository(if you linked your Github), Postgresql database for that
template and so clone the repo to your machine and start working on the
repo.

Make sure you install railway CLI on your computer

so you will need to login on CLI using

"railway login --browserless'

Link your production environment

"railway link" and select the environment

use "railway run " to run django commands

Like
railway run python manage.py runserver
