[DNG] Systemd as tragedy
Whether systemd is a tragedy or not, I will not say, but whenever I tried it, I was always greeted with OS crashes. At first, I tried to use it for a media player but, needless to state, the OS crashed for no reason. With an SD card as the storage medium this becomes a nuisance as one has to take out the SD card, insert it in another machine, and run fsck to repair damage done by not shutting down properly. I have already an impredictable mains supply that has the habit of suspending itself at its own whims. I do not need a pseudo-init that has been constantly fed features it shouldn't feature as an init rendering it the most obese of all. ___ Dng mailing list Dng@lists.dyne.org https://mailinglists.dyne.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/dng

Hard to believe I listened to the same talk Corbet is describing. What I heard was a propaganda piece, finding reasons to sell the systemd approach to BSD conference attendees. To Benno Rice, the tragedy is the pathetic opposition to what he construes as the inevitable forces of progress and rationality. -- Joel Roth ___ Dng mailing list Dng@lists.dyne.org https://mailinglists.dyne.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/dng

[DNG] suspicious firefox behaviour
I have firefox up with a number of tabs. I shut wifi off on my Purism laptop by shutting off power to the radio. I start up a new tab by clicking on '+'. I ask to look at file:///home/hendrik by typing in the url bar. Nothing happens. It's frozen. I try file:/// Nothing happens either. I turn wifi on and reconnect to the access point. Now both of these urls work. So I ask: Why should firefox need to access the net to look at the hard drive in the laptop. Using Devuan Ascii and the firefox it provides. -- hendrik ___ Dng mailing list Dng@lists.dyne.org https://mailinglists.dyne.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/dng

GTK+ config files seem to be pigeon-holed in so many places it's impossible to figure out: env variables GTK2_RC_FILES, /etc/gtk/, ~/.gtkrc, ~/.gtkrc-2.0, ~/.gtkrc-3.0, ~/.themes/, /usr/share/themes/...on-and-on... ugh It seems many themes have a gtk-3 directory in them, but do not actually change the Xfce4-terminal window color. Not sure what's up with that but finally found one[1] which seems to work. If anyone else shares my frustration, hope this helps. Thanks for all the OT input.
