[DNG] displaying a window while key combo is being held

2016-06-19 Thread fuumind
Is there a tool in Openbox or X that I can use to display a window while
a combination of one or more keys on the keyboard are being held down
and then hide it again when the keys are released? Kind of like the
window switching dialog.

2016-06-01 Thread fuumind
Thanks for the input! My target machine is an anchient feature phone
that supports mp3 and AAC only. Its limited storage space combined with
a speaker that does not make high bitrates justice tells me that AAC is
the best choise of codec in this case.

[DNG] Converting audio to AAC using Soundconverter

2016-06-01 Thread fuumind
I wish to convert several thousands of audio files mostly in mp3 format
to AAC using the Soundconverter application. So far I have installed the
application and the packages gstreamer$VERSION-plugins-$CODECCOLLECTION
where VERSION=('0.10' '1.0') and CODECCOLLECTION=('base' 'good' 'bad'
'ugly') - doing the usual guesswork and then trying to find info
online :) - but AAC does not present itself as an available target
encoding.

What package do I need to install in order to make AAC available? Should
I perhaps be using some other software instead of Soundconverter?

Thanks!

[DNG] using X to set hotkey for taking screen shot

2016-05-30 Thread fuumind
Hi list!

Inspired by recent discussions about setxkbmap and xmodmap I asked
myself if it was possible to use X to assign a hotkey for taking a
screenshot (or running any other command) instead of doing it as I do it
now, in my openbox rc-file. It would be neat to become window manager
independent! :)

Some reasearch indicated that the above commands would not be of any use
and I have so far been unable to find any other suggestions online. The
time has come to ask you guys. What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks!

Re: [DNG] functionality missing in iceweasel?

2016-05-11 Thread fuumind
You are probably right.

It seems my apt was not correctly set up. The lines for jessie-security
got commented out when I installed alpha because the installer could not
contact the swedish mirror.

After enabling it I now have Iceweasel 38.8.0 which at least lets me use
the forum appropriately.

[DNG] functionality missing in iceweasel?

2016-05-11 Thread fuumind
One of the forums I frequent does not allow me to update my profile
using Iceweasel 38.7.1, which is the version in my devuan install. It
just reloads my profile page with the unmodified data. In a virtual
Lubuntu 16.04 having Firefox 46.0 updating the profile information works
without a problem.

Another page, ekoskane.se/lista, also does not work properly in my
Devuan Iceweasel either but works in Lubuntu 16.04s Firefox 46.0. The
page is supposed to present a list of local farming and other green
initiatives available in the south of Sweden.

Both these problems also occur in Chromium 49.0.2623.108 on my Devuan
setup. If I rememeber correctly I had the same problem when I was on
Lubuntu 14.04 as well, with both Firefox and Chromium.

Apparently these pages expect some functionality that is present in
Firefox 46.0 but is not in any of the other browsers. I do not know if
it is the same functionality missing in both cases. Do any of you guys
know what functionality this is and if there is a way to make it
available in Iceweasel or Chromium on Devuan?

Hope it's not some proprietary crap!

Re: [DNG] mounting an android phone as usb storage

2016-04-30 Thread fuumind
lol! You never know! There are experiments being done on teleportation. ;)

This is kind of interesting! 'jmtpfs mnt' told me 'No mtp devices found.' which
led me to check out my phone a little more in detail. I found I could select
which mode I wanted it to use and I had been using USB mode all the time.
Choosing MTP mode and plugging into my laptop actually automounts it and
pcmanfm asks me if I want to open it in a new window. This is true even when
jmtpfs is not installed.

In summation: Connecting my phone using USB mode does not auto mount it but
connecting it to my laptop using MTP mode works even when jmtpfs is not
installed.

I'm trying to connect my android phone to my devuan laptop as a USB storage

dmesg says it has detected the device and lsusb shows an entry as well but I

What should I be looking for?

Re: [DNG] Tochpad scrolling on devuan

2016-04-27 Thread fuumind
Hi all!

Thank you for all the great help with getting my touchpad working better! I now
have two finger scrolling working (I discovered in the process that my hardware
do support it.) Adding the option line 'Option "VertTwoFingerScroll" "on"' to
the file /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf and unloading/reloading
psmouse.ko did the trick. I am not sure wether the kernel upgrade made any
difference and I am not very inclined to downgrade atm. :)

All the best!

Re: [DNG] Tochpad scrolling on devuan

Thanks for the link!

My kernel went from 3.16 to 4.4 but still no scrolling.

also:

lsmod|grep -iE "apple|cyapa|sermouse|synap|psmouse|vsxx|bcm"
btbcm 16384 1 btusb
bluetooth 516096 24 bnep,btbcm,btrtl,btusb,btintel
psmouse 122880 0

And freeciv looks a lot nicer as well :)

Maybe there are some configuration changes needing to be done for X after all.

Re: [DNG] Tochpad scrolling on devuan

2016-04-26 Thread fuumind
I doubt that my hardware is too new. It is a Dell Latitude E6410 that I bought
second hand a couple of years ago. :)

How would I go about upgrading to a backported kernel? Is there a repo
somewhere I can use or do I need to build it myself?

[DNG] Tochpad scrolling on devuan

2016-04-25 Thread fuumind
Hi!

I am trying to get touchpad scrolling working on my new Devuan setup. So far
I've figured out that it is probably pmouse that is driving the hardware by
stealing the following from
http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/131432/which-driver-is-handling-my-touchpad
 :

lsmod|grep -iE "apple|cyapa|sermouse|synap|psmouse|vsxx|bcm"

and getting

psmouse99249 0

Apart from this all I seem to be able to find on the net is alot about setting
up X for synaptics.

As I am unsure how to proceed I would appreciate any guidance!
