Can someone point me to a description of what needs to be generated for SVG?

Mozilla does support inline SVG. See
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/svg/ and the examples on
http://www.croczilla.com/svg/ .

Note that Mozilla 1.0 will not ship with SVG enabled. The Debian package
mozilla-snapshot contains a version which supports SVG.

Nor IE.

Use the svg plug in from adobe.

Also includes the get out to download if not supported.
