That is, if you want your customisation layer to remain
backend-independant, you have to call openjade -Vtex-backend

Yes thank :).  I'm inheriting a lot of the FreeBSD doc-project
(thanks Murray/Nik) infrastructure and so this kind of thing is
already dealt with.

BTW, there appear to a lot of bugs rendering footnotes on the same
page. The most notable of which is if the footnote was called from
within a figure title then it appears on the same page, but in bold.
