That's now sorted and I've placed the chapter in the Published folder.

[libreoffice-documentation] LibreOffice Base Guide 6.4 or 7.0

2020-05-04 Thread Pulkit Krishna
Now that the Base Guide 6.2 has been published, I am thinking about the
next version of Base Guide. As it has been decided that we would rewrite
the complete Base Guide for version 7.0, so it would take time. Since v6.4
has got almost no change in Base, so I propose that all the chapters
shouldn't go for 2 reviews. Only the chapters with significant changes
should go for the two review system. Rest of the chapters can be just
updated by me and declared as published. They can be checked for formatting
errors if anyone wants but they should be quick. This will publish the 6.4
book quickly and would give us more time to work on 7.0 book. Another way
can be that we simply ommit the v6.4 book. I don't want to go with the
second way for a reason:- All the guides including GS, WG, CG, DG, IG, MG
are going to have a v6.4(I am not sure about the impress book). Since 6.4
is the last member of 6.x series, so it would be good if every guide has a
version 6.4. So, Even if we have no change in Base in 6.4, we should
publish it. For v7.0, I have a long plan which I will send in an seperate
email.

[libreoffice-documentation] Augmenting help for use of LibreOffice

2020-05-04 Thread Steve Edmonds
Hi.
I would like to contribute to help or guidance in use of LibreOffice
where I can see it assisting current users to simplify tasks or filling
in a hole for those who may be more familiar with MSO. Not so much
explaining how LibreOffice functions but help about using LibreOffice to
complete specific tasks, especially for less experienced users (of which
we have a company full).
I mentioned in a post to this list a week or so ago an alternative
process for creating documents with data inserted from a spread sheet.
Pulkit kindly replied and suggested a wiki page, the wiki site directed
me to https://help.libreoffice.org/. I downloaded the source, checked
out https://newdesign.libreoffice.org/xhpeditor/index.php and decided it
was relatively straight forward to edit a page.

I then wondered about the philosophy behind wiki vs help documentation
so checked the MSO help pages on line and found they were relatively
interested in helping users achieve tasks.

I understand there can't be a free for all,
https://help.libreoffice.org/ would seem a logical umbrella for all help
content but there could be a good case for wiki pages referenced from
help pages. Then there is the issue of how do users find help. Again
referencing from a search in help.libreoffice.org seems logical.
I would like some guidance on where to find the appropriate place to
contribute. Is it simply a case of presenting a proposal for
documentation to this list or  emailing it to documentation at
libreoffice dot org as referenced at
https://documentation.libreoffice.org/ and waiting for feedback.

Cheers, Steve

[libreoffice-documentation] Technical Writing and Google Seasons of Doc 2020

2020-05-04 Thread Olivier Hallot
Hi Team

I submitted TDF application for Mentoring Organization of the Google
Seasons of Doc 2020.

A wiki page on the possible projects for technical writing is available
at [1].

The list is not closed and accepts suggestions and additions until end
of this week. The current set of subjects are
- The Calc Functions guide in Wiki.
- A review of the API documentation aimed to be effective for the
average macro coder
- E-leaning for Writer
- E-learning for Calc

If you have other suggestions of projects, please add to the list with a
minimal description of deliverables. Note that you can also apply to be
the technical writer (TW) for your idea. However, Google use to grant
only one slot per year so there will be a selection.

When the TW application phase starts, we will ask TW candidates for
proposals to address the project they elected to work on. TDF staff will
select the best or most effective project and recommend it to Google. We
are confident we can select the best project for LibreOffice and for
LibreOffice community.

In particular I drafted 2 e-learning projects for Writer and Calc under
a possible Moodle installation. I admit I am not skilled in e-learning
techniques although I participated in a LO project in Brazil 10 year ago
and have some ideas about. Mentors interested to address the projects
are welcome to step forward.

Kind regards
Olivier

I will not be producing a printed copy of this book any time soon,
