[libreoffice-documentation] Calc Guide Chapter 13, Calc as a Simple Database

2019-12-17 Thread Zachary Parliman
All:

I've put chapter 13 into the Feedback folder for review.

Notes:
- Seems like much of the material in this chapter overlaps with the material in
other chapters, particularly 2, 6, 7, & 18. I ended up cross-referencing those
chapters fairly frequently. It feels like this chapter is more of a sign-post
pointing to other how-to guides and reference material than actually adding
much new how-to-guide/reference material in its own right.

- I added some extra macro information for sorting.

- I left out the function use cases toward the end, given the amount of overlap
with chapter 18 and the discussions on the mailing list regarding Calc
functions. I did leave the reference lists in, however.

Very delayed (sorry!), but finishing up. I'll try to have it done in the next
day or two.

Oops, the mailing topic should read "Chapter 13," not "Chapter 3." Sorry for
any confusion!

2019-10-18 Thread Zachary Parliman
All:

I'll go ahead and update this chapter to LO 6.2 if no one objects. I just have
a (possibly dumb) question:

Is it safe to assume that the macro programming aspect should remain a focus of
this chapter? I'm comfortable enough with programming and scripting languages,
so I don't mind describing macros.

Thanks,
Zach

[libreoffice-documentation] Calc Guide, Chapter 17, Keyboard Shortcuts

2019-10-02 Thread Zachary Parliman
All:

I have put this chapter in the Feedback folder for review. Since a lot has been
changed and updated, I did not use the change tracker.

A few notes:

-This chapter draws from the Tools > Customize > Keyboard list in addition to
the 4.1 chapter and the online Help. As a result, there are a few shortcuts
that aren't found in the Help.

-Some of the wording for the shortcut descriptions is different from the Help.
Some of it is small grammatical changes, but in the case of the End hotkeys,
the descriptions didn't quite line up with how the shortcuts worked. I left a
couple of comments in this area.

-I had a few issues with some of the shortcuts (mainly the pivot table ones). I
left comments where applicable.

Thanks,
Zach

[libreoffice-documentation] Calc Guide, Chapter 9, Data Analysis

2019-09-18 Thread Zachary Parliman
All:

The second review for the Data Analysis chapter has been uploaded to the
Feedback folder. The edits are extensive (largely cutting down and revising
material), so a third review may be worthwhile. I apologize if the change
tracker acts strangely; I noticed it doesn't like style and numbering changes
very much.

Since the edits are significant, I kept the previous review draft (dated 29
July) in the Feedback folder as well, just in case.

I'll finish the second review for Chapter 9, Data Analysis, try to get that
finished in the next week or two, then start on one of the unclaimed chapters.

[libreoffice-documentation] Calc Guide, Chapter 9, Data Analysis

2019-07-31 Thread Zachary Parliman
All:

I'm currently focusing on the chapter's introduction, and it looks like it
could use some trimming down and revising to get it in line with the style
guide. That said, since I'm new to the team, and not the chapter author, I'm
hesitant on making any significant structural edits. Can anyone clarify what
the etiquette is for this situation? Should I just stick to small edits and
comments?

Steve, since you're the author, are you fine with edits from me, or would you
prefer that I just leave comments?

Thanks,
Zach

[libreoffice-documentation] Hi there!

2019-07-10 Thread Zachary Parliman
Hello,

My name's Zach Parliman, and I'm interested in helping out with documentation
and getting some hands-on experience in the process. I have some exposure to
software development, but otherwise I'm new to technical writing. Per the wiki,
I've subscribed to the mailing list already and am looking over the
contributor's guide.
