OK. I'll see what happens when I get it apart.

Hi Terry,

But that's a completely different program, one that might recognise the
error that mpg321 is passing back to you and instead implicitly add its
equivalent of --stereo before trying again.

The Kit is buttoned up at the moment and I'm running some soak tests.
However, there is something else that is no longer working, so I'll have to
delve inside again tomorrow and I'll check this out then.

I've just tried it on this machine and it doesn't help. However, I'm getting
a different error anyway, so that's probably a red herring.

I don't think it's the device because it works fine when I use mpg123.

I'll report back later in the week, when I've had a chance to look at this
properly.

I think it's due to you giving it mono. Can you experiment by changing
just the list of files to be all stereo, all mono, or a mix?

mpg321(1) also says

--stereo Force stereo output: duplicates mono stream on second
output channel. Useful for output for devices that don't
understand mono, such as some CD players.

so I'd try adding that to the invocations that fail to see if it helps.

Once you've narrowed down what triggers the error, the mpg321 folks
might like to know to see if it's a problem their end, or just that the
particular device you want to use doesn't accept mono and the other
command you use that do work spot this and compensate.

I have looked at Boostnote in the past, never really got into using it (I was
looking for
something to use for a job at work). I ended up downloading it and looking at
it. I was interested
as it was available for windows and Linux (.deb format and install on to Debian
based distro ok).

I guess it depends on what you want at the end of the day.

I use Evernote which sound fairly similar as a solution. There's an unofficial
client for Linux called nixnote.

For that reason, I have started using Simplenote. Not as sexy as Keep, but
it does support markup, and runs natively on Linux, OSX and Windows as
well as in a web browser.

Another option is Emacs Org mode. Everything from note taking, todo lists,
agendas, calendaring, project time tracking to producing formatted documents
(using markup) and publishing to LaTeX, PDF, HTML, and can use Tramp mode to
access from anywhere over SSH.

Cheers
