I was in there not too long ago and the current setup is really quite
restaurant-like. Possibly not the best choice for a LUG meeting.

It has recently been remodelled and has a nice modern atmosphere. The
only downside is it is a Badger pub and not my favourite brewer.

AFAIK there are no buses that go down that part of the road any more,
so you'd have to get off at St Osmunds Church and walk back (a few
minutes). M1 stops there.

2010-08-06 Thread Ralph Corderoy

Hi Terry,

> Make sure you all have a pint for me :-)

I think we all switched to coffees after the first round. Things
started OK but then some very loud "music" started so we moved to the
corner furthest from the speakers. This didn't help when the "singing"
commenced. It seems Wednesday's may now be karaoke night!

So then we moved on to the tables out the back, and coffees as it wasn't
a warm evening. Some of us hadn't brought coats, some of us had brought
shorts, and were wearing them.

We could really do with a new place to meet in the Bournemouth area. I
suggest we don't meet at The King's Arms again to force ourselves to try
somewhere new. The next meet is

http://dorset.lug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=meetings:pub
Tuesday 2010-09-07 20:00 Blandford Forum Crown Hotel

so we've a couple of months to do nothing about it followed by a rush
decision. :-)

Criteria I can think of, speak up if you -1/0/+1,

Be able to hear others talk. Blandford can be a bit echoey due to
all the hard surfaces, but we're probably the noisiest thing in
there.

Nearby, ideally onsite, free parking. Don't want to have to guess
how many hours are needed, pay more than a pint, and then get soaked
walking from there to the venue on a winter's night.

Not town centre. Outskirts of Bournemouth conurbation can be easier
to drive to from the rest of Dorset. Bus access a plus.

Free wifi, with a decent signal.

I didn't include alcohol. :-) I'd be happy without so if there's a
conference room at work we could use after hours, along with the
office's parking, a community hall, etc., that you know of, suggest it.
We'd want to be able to bring soft drinks though.

I was thinking of asking that beer quaffing
http://www.dorsetdigital.co.uk/ lot if they've any suggestions since
they often have a different venue every time. Perhaps if we come up
with some ideas soon then someone local to the area can take a look.

Cheers,
Ralph.
