Enough interest and support to do what? In my experience, if you want to
do something, JFDI. Don't hang around waiting for permission, promises
from others or a team to form.

Hi Folks,

I've wanted a UPS for years, but never really had enough spare cash to
justify it.

I know a fair bit about how UPS's work and I would be interested i trying
to build a home brew one if there is enough interest and support.

I have a reasonable understanding of Electronics, but I'm not sure I could
design a decent Inverter from scratch,

Here are some Wikipedia links about UPS's :-

Power Inverter

If anyone is interested in taking this further, reply to DLUG and we'll see
what happens.

Cheers Peter.

[Dorset] Eric Raymond Rails Against Uninterruptible Power Supplies.

2018-02-10 Thread Ralph Corderoy
Hi,

I was going to relay this on the #dorset IRC channel come Monday, but I
think there's some on the list that would be interested too.

UPSes suck and need to be disrupted
http://esr.ibiblio.org/?p=7839

Eric talks of what's wrong with the battery side, the flaws with the
software and UI are a bit of a given. And then what could be different.

I've pondered a UPS now and again and never commit; there just doesn't
seem to be a well regarded one aimed at the home user. If there was a
home-brew where the workings could be seen and understood then I'd be
more likely, and I'm probably not alone.

Cheers, Ralph.
