Interesting how "Linux" has become synonymous with "Ubuntu". Assuming
you're using Ubuntu, that is...

Also- I finally managed to set up folder-sharing on VirtualBox.
It depends on having the guest extensions installed, which means a crap
screen resolution, but it is the only way I know.

Re: [Dorset] It'll Never Catch On.

2010-05-15 Thread Simon O'Riordan
I'm up late, because it is Saturday, my downloads have not finished, and
I've been doing something that Losedows finds very difficult; the
wireless network I have consists of my desktop(dongle) and my
laptop(card).
Tonight I found out how to fix up networking.
It's easy.
Right click on the folder you want to share.
Set it to share, if you need more software there will be an auto
download.
Set the server firewall to allow you in(ifconfig gets your lan0 client
ip address), then use 'connect to server' with your computer name.
This works. I can now switch files between my boxes across the air.
Note - when you move an executable, you need to reset the permissions at
the destination to allow it to execute again.
Loverly!

[Dorset] It'll Never Catch On.

2010-05-15 Thread Simon O'Riordan
Just a minute; I was talking to my cousin in Canada on the phone. He's
calling me back on Skype later this evening.
Meanwhile I ordered 'Beaufort' from Amazon, it'll arrive in a few days,
but it is dubbed into English, so I want the original Hebrew(with
subtitles) which is available by 'Transmission' bit-torrent. Should be
finished in an hour.
Meanwhile, earlier I downloaded a double album of Prokofiev(LSO/Andre
Previn), which I am listening to with the 5.1 sound system fully
optimised for my rooms.

It's all done with a couple of hundred quids worth of hardware and
totally free 10.04.

Does anybody really think there's a future in it?
