[Dovecot] Unexplained MDA bounce backs

2008-01-14 Thread Dean Manners
I have recently noticed that some of our internal mailer scripts are causing
Dovecot-LDA to generate Mailer Delivery Subsystem messages. The following
Dovecot-LDA message is generated:

 Message body
Your message was automatically rejected by Dovecot Mail Delivery Agent.
The following reason was given:
Unknown error
 Message body

 Message header
Return-Path: MAILER-DAEMON

Initially I thought these were being caused by Delivery-Receipt requests,
however have since tested this and is not the case. I have tried to snoop
through the logs (unfortunately on a very busy mail hub) using the
Message-ID, however this doesn't seem to lead me back to the original
message - only the MDA notification. I can only ascertain that its isolated
to our scripts, as the bounces@ address is specifically used by them.

Any ideas what would cause/trigger the Unknown error automatic rejects ?

System config is
-Postfix 2.3.4 with MySQL backend
-Dovecot 1.0.rc26 with MySQL backend, using only deliver.

All mail deliveries are otherwise fine.

Re: [Dovecot] removing old emails

2007-05-09 Thread Dean Manners
Ray,
We do this, deleting spam filtered messages older than 21 days. We
also delete the index's and let Dovecot re-generate them. Have had no
problems with this method for 4 months.

 Hello,
I need to remove mail older than for example 30 days. Email
is stored in maildir format. can I just use a cron job and
shell script or will that mess up indexs?
 Thanks
 Ray

Re: [Dovecot] v1.1 plans

2007-04-17 Thread Dean Manners
I want to update index file handling to use less locks and
update dovecot.index file less often. The file formats would
still stay backwards compatible with v1.0. After this I'm
hoping to get index files working well with NFS even with
 attribute cache enabled.

Music to my ears - as im sure with many other NFS sites.
