I noticed that the definition of "test" changed (heh heh, used that one
a lot). Maybe they switched dictionary databases.

Atomica ('atm') is the resource I use for good city/country information
(and similiar things), not quite as convenient without the popout
viewing but has great information.

[DQSD-Users] Crazy windows

2002-09-22 Thread amir

I have DQSD on top. If it's obscured by a browser window and I Win-S to
get there, the obscuring window starts acting crazy, e.g., changing
size, maximizing and restoring, etc...

Has anyone noticed this behavior?

A.

Thanks for the comprehensive explanation, Thad.

I have since discovered that my DP is in fact working. It appears
though that they have cut back on certain categories however. You
could, previously, enter a country or city name and get a brief
breakdown on population etc. That feature appears to have been
discontinued and I suspect that there are others.

Your totally
right. For now I removed .exe from the autostart list, I'll suggest to them to
add some better filtering.
Thanks, Tom.

Re: [DQSD-Users] Dictionary Pop

2002-09-22 Thread Thad Kerosky

My dictionary portion of DictionaryPop didn't work for about 3-4 days a
few weeks ago. I'm not sure if they have a quota (per IP?) that you
can't exceed for each portion but it just returned the 'word not found'
error for a while.

But, DictionaryPop is a web service hosted by mybubble.com, I just
checked their site and found:

CUPERTINO, CA - September 21, 2002
MyBubble announced today that the company is changing its name and
will be called Extensio Software Inc., with immediate effect. This
change follows the company's decision to evolve its product into the
preferred information integration platform catering to professionals
to whom information access is of crucial importance.

"We have morphed from MyBubble to Extensio, the enterprise class
solution that dramatically improves accessibility of data stores,"
said Vipin Samar - CEO, Extensio. "Our new identity reflects our
focus on the customer segment we serve - Enterprises that need to
deal with greater amounts of information each day, whether from
their enteprise data stores or from the internet, and want to extend
the value of their information assets at all user touch points."

That probably accounts for any recent down time. If it turns out that
the web service goes under there's another dictionary web service host I
can try to work in but we'll probably lose the thesaurus and stock flags.

I might need to update the add-on at some point to fix the domain too
but the old version is working okay for me now.

If there happens to be a quota there's a chance it's possible to get
around by registering a username with them and having a set up similiar
to the way GoogleSpell requires a google id. Right now it is set up to
use the anonymous public service.

Is 'Dictionary Pop' inoperative to others?

For the past week I have been unable to obtain results from this
search. On checking with three other users they report the same, two
on XP and one on W98SE.
