Re: [DQSD-Users] Dave search bar and active content blocking by XP SP2

2004-04-12 Thread Thad Kerosky
Indeed, the SP2 Local Machine Zone Lockdown is blocking DQSD from
running every reboot. To fix it change (in StartRunregedit):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Microsoft \Internet Explorer\main
\FeatureControl\FEATURE_LocalMachine_Lockdown\Explorer.exe to 0
and If It Exists:

   HKEY_CURRENT_USER \Software\Microsoft \Internet Explorer\main
\FeatureControl\FEATURE_LocalMachine_Lockdown\Explorer.exe to 0
per
http://msdn.microsoft.com/security/productinfo/XPSP2/securebrowsing/locallockdown.aspx
I don't see any concession to whitelist DQSD running in explorer as it
is, we should probably add a prompt to the installer and have it execute
this key change, maybe only if SP2 is installed.
I tried to send a registry or a zipped registry file but sourceforge has
stringent listserv attachment policies apparently.

I suspect this problem wont get much visibility until XP SP2 is actually
released.. I dont think there are too many people who have installed the
beta.

You might search around here - http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#SP2

or maybe here -

Sorry guts, we don't seem to have made any progress
 here.

Can this annoyance be turned off or can't it.

Re: [DQSD-Users] Dave search bar and active content blocking by XP SP2

2004-04-10 Thread RC
Steve,
Sounds like a problem with your IE security settings.
You've probably got those set to Prompt instead of
Allow. Go to ToolsInternet Options. Click on the
Security Tab and make sure the Internet Zone is set to
the default level ( medium). Click ApplyOk.

If you continue to have problems, and are using a
firewall like Zone Alarm Pro, check the Privacy settings
to make sure they aren't set too high.

(I just installed search bar today and I'm still trying
to figure out all the features.)
But, hope this helps.Good Luck!

Re: [DQSD-Users] Dave search bar and active content blocking by XP SP2 [bcc][faked-from]

2004-04-10 Thread Ken Arundell
Folks,
I think the issue is deeper than that and very much a part of the new
security features added to XP via Service Pack 2. (As far as I know, SP2
is still in beta.)

I've tried a variety of security settings, including putting the DQSD
files into Trusted Zones. BTW, I couldn't get IE to let me reduce my
Internet security below Medium - it gives an error message and resets it
to Medium. I'm still playing around with customized settings, but
haven't found anything that works.
Sigh,
Ken.
