That's caused by two things, With the exception of a few countries that have opened up 7100-7200, 40 meters for most of the world is 7000-7100. We don't have a choice. Your inability to use those frequencies for voice along with the digital signals up there eat up 40m for many hams. The 7100-7300 band is almost unuseable here anyway, in order to work split you need to be able to pick out a relatively weak SSB signal sent on a small antenna from among megawatt AM signals sent out with huge antennas only one skip away. Many broadcasters go to sleep around 2-3 AM but then so do I. :-) Digital used to be a neat idea and needed to be fostered. When the digital signals clustered around 7090, it was ok, but they have snuck down well below 7050. In many CEPT countries the class B, aka "general" hams only have any privledges from 7050 to 7100. Imagine how they feel. 40 meters aside, it does hold up well use it well and enjoy it. Maybe some day when the sun spots return we can work each other on 20m. Geoff. -- Geoffrey S. [drakelist] TR-4 new problem
Special thanks to all the folks that have helped me to solve the TR-4 problem regarding not being able to get any drive to the finals. Well, I installed a 10 pf capacitor in series with the 9mhz crystal and I got drive to the finals on all bands, EXCEPT only in the sideband position that doesn't have a X on the panel. I can not get any drive with the sideband switch in the X position. I even doubled the series capacitor to 20 pfd and it didn't help. I would appreciate any help that anyone can offer, thank you very much. Karl Corder WA2OVJ

Got it to re-live my first modern rig & see if it's still as neat as it was 30 yrs ago. Pretty close, but it doesn't have the CW filter like the one I had back then. I do have a RadShack DSP unit I picked up somewhere that does a pretty good job with it. I haven't cruised the CW bands much in the last yr or so, and was disgusted at all the digital crap (and voice) that has worked it's way down as far as 7030. If that's the "new" ham radio, I'll opt out. You can copy CW sigs that are less than 500cy apart, but that crap gobbles up 2-3kc with its warbling, chirping, etc. It used to be a few digi's up around 7070-80, and some Canadian voice that low maybe. Re: [drakelist] Neutralizing
gwt <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> made an utterance to the drakelist gang -- Out of curiosity, since I own 3 sets of Drake twins, I checked to see how much you could get 12JB6's for. I found that you could buy two of them and have them matched for $38.50, from Antique Electronics Supply. A decent deal, if you don't mind changing the heater wiring. And a lot better price than the price quoted at RF Parts. The price for 6JB6's was a bit cheaper than RF Parts, and the 1.25 per tube for matching is a LOT cheaper than RF Parts. You could get two matched 6JB6's from Antique Electronics for about $50 bucks.
