[drakelist] FS: Drake 4-Line

2006-04-14 Thread Duane Calvin

For sale, one Drake 4-Line, the original
1964-65 version.  This station consists of:

Drake R-4   S/N 0667  Good
Condx, tuning dial has discolored apparently due to sunlight exposure from .175
- .325.  Still very readable.  Good sensitivity on 80m 40m, 20m, but
falls of on 15m and 10m.  Probably needs new RF amp tube.  Sounds
good.  Front panel and case are good, with a few small scratches.
Chassis is darkened with a few small rust spots.  Includes 5 additional
band crystals for 500 KHz segments at:  28.5, 29, 29.5, 1.0, 1.5 MHz.

Drake T-4X  S/N 10127   Good
Condx, including final tubes.  Operates well on lower bands, but due to
R-4’s lack of sensitivity, I have not tried it on the higher bands.
Front panel and case are in good shape, chassis is darkened, but no obvious
rust spots.

Drake AC-3 Power Supply (working well)

Drake MS-4  Speaker  Works well.

There is no sign of smoker environment that
I can see.   These each have their original shipping boxes and the
R-4 and T-4X have the original instruction manuals as well.  (The sales
receipt is still in the R-4 manual).  Interconnect cables are also
included.

Photos are available on request.

Price:  $350 plus shipping, will drive
reasonable distance to meet you in Texas for delivery.  Or, I am driving
to the Dayton Hamvention and would be OK with delivering there.

Reason for sale – I have another 4A
line that needs to move to the work bench, and two other receivers after that,
so it’s time to let go of my favorite Drake station.

Duane

[drakelist] Mike element for Shure 444?

2006-04-14 Thread Bill Maddock
I recently purchased a TR-4C and shure microphone. The TR-4C worked great after some alignemnt and cleaning of 1 khz shift relay contacts. The rig works great on cw but mike doesn't work - rig keys up but no audio.     I am assuming the TR-4C is working properly, so it must be the mike element. Where can I find a mike element replacement?     Thanks and 73,     Bill N4ZI  Atoka, TN

One possible way to go is to purchase Heil HC-4 or HC-5 element. I
think that you will also need the XT-1 transformer which will match the
element impedance to the Hi Z required by the Drake Mic Amplifier - but
check whether your transmitter has a high or low impedance input.

See http://www.heilsound.com/

I have no connection with Bob Heil or his company apart from being a
customer several years ago.

Hi Bill,
I have bought/used the 25LM022 and the -M024 elements from
Mouser.com. I have them each in a D-104 head, and can swap easily for
comparison. Their impedances are both as is the Shure 444, one's a bit
higher. On the air comparisons don't show much difference, audio quality
is good. Low priced.

[drakelist] Element for Shure 444 - found low audio output and AC hum?

2006-04-14 Thread Bill Maddock
Thanks to Karl LA1CU for the suggestion to unplug the key - The mike I have has 2 switches on the bottom so you can try out any configuration. The mike works but has very low audio output - I have my gain control all the way up - it also has a noticeable AC hum. I am thinking weak tube or poor alignment. The rectifier tube OA2 might be weak or the set is currently not grounded!        I am open for any suggestions. The manual calls for a resistor/cap for testing. I don't have a good VTVM just a VOM - can it be aligned properly with these?     Thanks and 73,     Bill  N4ZI
