PS Since the Drake tuned the PTO coil, and other brands tuned a capacitor,
there will be some inherent differences in the amount of friction, unless some
more expensive measures are taken with the PTO (e.g. Collins).**

All, I will re-enforce what Evan is saying. You really
will appreciate the CD documentation when you have a need
for the information.I bought a complete set of CD's from
Garey a while back, and they have been very helpful with my
Drake repair and refurbishing work.

You won't appreciate the info on those CDs until you need
it. Having those unique pics before you get into, for
example the R4C, is a tremendous head start! I'm glad I
have mine.

And don't forget the Drake Forum at Hamvention, and the
Drake Nets!

Unique supplemental service information CDs available for
the Drake
TR-4, TR-4C/Cw/CwRIT, B and C Lines and the 2-B receiver.

These CDs are NOT just scans of the original manuals that
were included
with the equipment when new.

While high resolution scans of the original manuals ARE on
the CDs, what
they really offer is high resolution color photos of the
under chassis
and individual PC boards of each unit with all parts
identified and
keyed to a parts list. This information is not available
elsewhere and
really makes a difference in servicing these units. Samples
of these
pages (at reduced resolution) and purchase information are
at
www.k4oah.com http://www.k4oah.com/ .

I have had to several times in the past, disassemble the entire dial
mechanism and use emery paper to open up the nylon busing that the front
dial mounts to. That is the only way to fix swelled dial parts.

Well, not exactly, Garey. I DID get the old one going that you have helped
me with on and off finally. It WAS the switching transistor fuse, just
like you said, even though I had changed the transistors out twice!! I
guess my generic transistors weren't any good. I finally ordered the proper
number from Mouser, and it took right off!! I replaced the transistors on
the board in my friend's TR7, that was acting the same way, but it still
doesn't shut the receiver off during transmit. I hate to think about it,
but I guess it's time to pull the board and see what I did wrong, hi. Then
I plan to run through the complete alignment in the manual on both before
they go back into service. I am also working on a deal for a very late
serial numbered TR7, so still working toward a nice station, hi.
